Article: Whiff Of Success: Gibson Making Bats Miss

Recommended Posts

I think the important part here is to remember that Gibson is one of the best five SP'ers for the Twins this year. And I think everyone expects him to struggle at time. I am just thankful that he has managed to put up some good numbers (and get wins) against the bad teams.

Of qualified SPs in baseball, Lester gets 6.07 runs of support per start.

Gibson gets 6.15.

11-10 with an ERA over 5.00 (and a FIP close to 5 as well)

His numbers look practically identical to last year. About as close to a mirror image as possible. Same amount of innings, same ERA, little higher FIP, practically the same K/9, BB/9 and WHIP.

Whiff of success? There's a whiff alright :-)

Well damn, that trendline is gone to hell. Twins score double digits against the Tiger in three of the four games....and would you look at that, Gibson, of all people is the only one who didn't get 10+ runs!

September for Gibson: 5 games, 4-0, 2.81 ERA, 1.03 WHIP. Since the All-Star Game, a 3.58 ERA over 12 starts. The Twins have won 9 of those 12 games. He has been a big reason the Twins are heading to the Wild Card Game.
