Sinker lays out some of the reasons for the Twins recent moves and talks about some of the experiments he woudl like to see. But my favorite is the nickname he comes up with for the Twins rotation: The Filler Ds.

 

So, what are everyone's top experiments they want to see they Twins try over these last 6 weeks?

I want to see an infield of Plouffe , florimon, morneau, and dozier(sept 1). I am still a believer in dozier but I think he is ultimately going to end at second so let's see him play there and establish some comfort. Casilla should get the time at second till then. Make a final call on him. If Carroll plays more than 1 or 2 times a week the rest of the season I am going to pull the rest of my hair out. Outfield is kinda strange to call. Span is hurt at the worst time. He should be showcased right now but instead we have filler in Carson. I want to see revere in center or left and parmalee in right. I am not sure how thrilled I should be with his defense anywhere. I would like us to also see if the mastroianni at second is legit. If he can be trusted there at all then he should be a super utility guy in future. I also want to replace butera with a solid bat on bench. Let's see how mauer and doumit handle the load. Pitching. I have no clue other than Brian is a bullpen pitcher only. Would like to see diamond and deduno finish strong. Cole can't last. Neither can nick. If Liam can pull it together we have to find two front enders

I have to admit that when I read the title, I didn't think of Howard Sinker.

 

I saw "Sinker: Time for Twins to Experiment" and thought "WTF? Haven't they been preaching 'sink' and 'pitch to contact' for years?"

Have liked Howard's writing less as time's gone on, but I have to agree that Filler D's was pretty fantastic.

Man, there is a ton of ideas that could be thrown into this.

 

For me I would like to see Parmelee up playing 6 out of 7 games per week. It can work without stealing playing time from the essential players. It would be nice to see what he can offer playing full time - we did not see that this year and I do not think a fair judgement can be made on his 2012 performance in the bigs. Throw him in the OF, let him force a decision on whether he can handle playing the OF or not. There is a lot who say he cannot by them watching him play the OF in the minors. They may be right, but let's see it in person with the Twins and throw our darts after that conclusion has been made - bad or good.

 

Liam Hendricks has sucked in his time as a big leaguer, but has been brilliant in the minors. Hendricks doesn't have outstanding stuff (Poor Man's Scott Baker per Gleeman on PA's Show on KFAN today). He relies on his control and pitching intelligence. I am not sure if the Twins do not have him up here because they are protecting him or because they do not think he can be effective. If it is the former, that is a piss poor move. The Twins need to run this guy through the ringer and see if he can handle the pressure at this level of play. If what most are saying about Hendricks is correct, it would appear to me that the Twins need to let him pitch up here, have his failures, make his adjustments, use his greatest assets, go from there and see if he can cut it in MLB.

I've had enough experiments! I mean just look at the starting rotation! But seriously, I guess I'd like to see David Bromberg, but that's really it. .01% chance since he's:

A)Recently been demoted to NBR despite good play in ROC

Not on the 40 man roster and would need a pay raise too of all things

C) Hasn't been in a 'big player' in the Twins eyes because of 2011 and some other performance question marks
