Article: Official Twins Daily July Trade Deadline Day Thread

Recommended Posts

I have never heard the Twins say anything positive about Garver. I believe he will get a cup of coffee come September, but if I'm not mistaken, they view him as another Pinto, and will not trust him with our young pitchers.

I'm sure they like his bat this season, but yes... I'm assuming he is being moved around now (LF, DH, maybe 1B a little bit?) because there are real concerns about him sticking at C at the MLB level.

I  would assume Garver moving around more is directly connected to Jason Castro being under contract for the next two seasons.  Also, in this day of 3, MAYBE 4 man benches, the days of a back up catcher only being able to catch are probably over.

Kintzler to Arizona seems like the only possibility left that could return much if any value.  MLBTR noted last week there was some interest, but Arizona largely seems to be on the sidelines this trade season:

Next time the CBA rolls around (actually, it might not need Union approval), MLB should think about having a floating trade deadline.  Have it float so that it always falls on either the last Monday or Thursday of July.  There is a limited MLB schedule today. Barely half the teams are playing.  On a typical Monday, it's more like 75-80%. The fact that today is the trade deadline is 100% the reason why.  Some teams could be 3-4 players short at any given time.  It's a logistical nightmare.  Now imagine if today was Saturday.  Probably be playing two games short players.

MLB Trade rumors suggests Twins will move Kintzler.  I wonder what they get?

On twitter I'm hearing Rays, Rockies and Nationals all in on him.

From Rockies, I would go for Yency Almonte. For Rockies I'd target Garret Whitley (although we might need to throw in some $$). For Nationals, I'm not sure there is a match, unless they'd be willing to give us a PTBNL, who could be Will Crowe (can they do that - didn't they do that with Trea Turner?)

I'd have traded Kintzler weeks ago. That said, if the return prospect has less of a chance to impact the club than the twins have of climbing back into the race, then keep him and try to sign him.

I'd try to sell on guys I believe are overvalued by this market.

I wonder if Kepler's struggles against lefties have already hurt his stock. Is he still blue chip? Jack Morris said he'd take his swing over Bellinger's.

Rosario is a hitting machine in spurts with a disparate home vs away split but ability to hit lefties. Have enough teams noticed his remarkable improvement in plate discipline? Many still see him as a 4th outfielder.

I think I'd rather have Eddie, and I think you can get more for Kepler. This may be more of an off-season move, but I think the teams willing to trade controlled-pitching may be more motivated now.

I think you're the only person who would take Rosario over Kepler.

Kepler's extreme struggles against lefties are confusing, but he's still got more upside than Rosario, and he is already a better player anyway.

Are you suggesting trading Kepler? Why?  He's probably the second best all around hitter on the roster.  Yes, he needs to improve vs LHP.  But he's young enough to believe he can.

New rule is that draft picks can't be traded until after the World Series, and can't be included as PTBNL prior to that.

I wonder what it would cost to extend Kintzler.

IF he would sign for 2-6.

And

IF we are keeping Ervin and Dozier to hopefully see what next year looks like with Gonsalves, Romero, and Gordon here than it is an option I would explore if we aren't getting a meaningful prospect in return.

3 million a year for an above average RP who has never been a FA? More like 10MM a year, I'd guess, maybe as low as 7MM a year for three years...

If tobi meant 6 per year, maybe. Even that is light.

John
1:30 Nationals in the mix for Kintzler, you think they end up with one of the better playoff bullpens?

Dave Cameron
1:30 Well I wouldn't really want to trust Kintzler inducing groundballs to Daniel Murphy in October, but that's just me.

My $3 per year maybe low. But I don't think it would take 6, 7, or 10. It would be mid season.

Last year you had Meloncon, Chapman, and Jansen in the top 10 free agents. Clearly, Kintzler is not there.

Remaining guys, cbs had Holland 21 overall. 1 year and 7 million.

Romo 37. 1 year $3 million

Ziegler 40. 2 years 16 million

Wood 41, 2 years 12 million

Felix 46, 1 year 5.3 million

Cecil 47, 4 years 30 million

Uehara 51, 1 year 4.5 million.
