Royals Acquire Cahill, Two Relievers

This is an interesting trade to me. Not your typical prospects-for-veterans swap.

I did some research on this, trying to compare this trade to our Jaime Garcia trade. My notes are below:

KC acquires:

Trevor Cahill (29, RH SP, rental, pitched fairly well until injured in mid-May, hasn't pitched well since returning in July but FIP suggests he will pitch better)

Ryan Buchter (30, LH reliever, roughly 3.00 ERA this year and last, but 4.25 FIP, not really any LH/RH split, got to MLB at a late ago, so he is still controllable through 2021).

Brandon Maurer (27, RH reliever, 5.7 ERA this year but 3.2 FIP, has been productive in the past, controllable through 2019)

SD acquires:

Matt Strahm (25, LH reliever, #3 Royals prospect pre-season per Sickels, NR on MLB.com (not sure why), came out of nowhere last year to post a 1.23 ERA over 22 innings, on 60-day DL but controllable through 2022)

Esteury Ruiz (19, 2B, didn't seem to be on the prospect radar before this year (was not in Sickels top 20 or MLB top 30), but hitting .419/.440/.779 this season in 21 rookie league games, and had an .889 OPS last year in 56 DSL games)

Travis Wood (30, LH reliever, 6.91 ERA this year but has pitched well previous years, controllable in 2018 w/ mutual option 2019)
