Baseball is Good

Cory Engelhardt

Recommended Posts

I've started a baseball-centric podcast. It touches on twins topics often, but otherwise it is more about the sport and life of baseball. I've had a great opportunity to interview some fun people, so far mostly people associated here with Twins Daily, including Seth Stohs (@sethtweets) Brandon Warne (@Brandon_Warne) and most recently Tom Froemming (@BaseballbyTom)

The show is Thursday nights at 8:30pm. It's on ITunes, and the title of the show is Baseball is Good.

Please let me know if you have questions or topics you would want to discuss. Or if you want to be on the show at some point, let me know and I can make that happen.

Admittedly, I am not good at advertising or marketing this kind of thing. I'm doing it for the fun/joy of it all. If you want to listen and be a part of it, please feel free!

Episode #1 was back on 6/1/17. I did this podcast with my friend Ben. He comments on twinsdaily once in a while and loves the website, so I wanted to get him immersed into the world of podcasting, or at least my view of it. Please give it a listen...

Episode #2 was completed on 6/8/17. I did the podcast with my friend Seth Stohs. (@sethtweets) He helps run this website, TwinsDaily, and I really had a great time talking baseball with him. Please give this a listen!

Episode #4 I taped last night, 6/22/17, and I had the chance to talk with Tom Froemming (@BaseballbyTom) We talked Twins, how to disseminate analytics to a diverse audience, and if diving headfirst into baseball statistics makes the game more enjoyable. Please give it a listen!

Episode #5 was last night, and I did the podcast with my cousin Willie Swanson. We talked some baseball, but mostly it was just an hour of joking around (some inside jokes, I apologize for that) and catching up. Willie grew up with Brandon Warne, so he talked a little about their baseball team and team bus rides, as well as Willie's love for baseball and the Twins. If you want to laugh a little today, try listening to this podcast. I hope you enjoy it.

Episode #6 was last night. I talked with my friend Ben for the podcast. We went over the Twins first half so far, what we think of the upcoming all star break and ideas for the trade deadline. I also listed my top 10 prospects post draft (which turned into a top 17) and otherwise enjoyed chatting baseball. Please give it a listen!

Next week, I will have Ron Wade on my podcast. He is the marketing director for the Detroit Tigers, and I worked with Ron about a decade ago when he was in the St. Paul Saints front office. Ron is a fantastic guy, and I will plan to ask him about why he loves baseball, what got him into the field, any memories he wants to share from his time with the Saints, what he does now with the Tigers and will absolutely bring up his awesome vinyl record collection. Please let me know if there are any questions you want me to ask Ron as well. Have a great day!

Last night I had episode #7 of my podcast. My guest was Ron Wade. He is the Director of Marketing with the Detroit Tigers, and has been with the Tigers since the fall of 2005. I first met Ron when he and I worked together with the St. Paul Saints. He is an awesome person, and his background in biology and music and baseball was really fun to walk through together. Please give it a listen.

I had episode #8 of my podcast last night, Baseball is Good. The guest last night was Puckett's Pond writer Benjamin Chase. It was a fun interview, and it was topical as he is a lifelong Braves fan (thanks to his great Grandmother, who was a huge Hank Aaron fan) and also a big twins fan. He has written in the past for Braves sites as well, so knows their team and system kind of inside and out. We talked Jaime Garcia, what he could bring to the Twins if he is healthy (and pitching away from Sun Trust Park) and overall his love of prospects and baseball as a whole. Please give it a listen!

I had my episode #9 last night. My guest was my sister, Jennie Engelhardt. I've been wanting to invite friends and family on the show for a while (doesn't have to be just baseball focused all the time, right?) and I had a blast visiting with her and catching up. She did talk some about the Dodgers a bit, and repping Twins shirts in Dodger stadium (she lives in Venice, CA and attended the Twins game on Wednesday of this week) but we also talked life, her career(s) and why I am a complete idiot when it comes to the Game of Thrones. Please give it a listen.

I did my 10th podcast last night. My guest was Jon Sintes. It was a really fun interview. The first 10 minutes or so was just me with my thoughts on the Twins moves before the deadline, and then when Jon was on the show we talked about his career in baseball as well as his training program. Jon is VERY active on twitter/instagram/facebook, and he is a trainer for baseball, specifically right now with youth in the San Diego area. He is from Florida initially, and now helps train people in throwing, pitching and getting more velocity as well as how to throw different pitches. I will give the link to my podcast, but please also check out his pages as well. Have a great day!

Had my 11th podcast last night. My guest was Connor Looker and we talked baseball, statistics, baseball nostalgia and how talking baseball is a great way to bridge the gap between generations. Connor is a great twitter follow @C_look22 as he posts a ton of interesting statistics about players fairly often. Please give the show a listen.

I had my 12th podcast last night. Graig Kreindler was my guest. He is a professional artist who paints primarily baseball players and moments from the past. He was really fun to talk with, and I learned a lot about his medium and how he chooses the players he gets to paint next. His work is in museums across the country, and it was really fun to hear about his exhibit that is going to be at the Negro League hall of fame in (projected) spring 2020. Check out his website as well as his facebook and twitter. Graig is a super nice guy and his artwork is out of this world awesome!

I had my 13th podcast last night. Steve Buhr, aka SD Buhr, aka Jim Crikket was my guest. It was fun to catch up as I haven't seen him since early May. We talked Kernels baseball, Twins baseball, Royce Lewis, his baseball playing days growing up in Albert Lea, day-dreaming about Fort Myers/Sanibel and the craft beer scene in and around Cedar Rapids. Please check it out!

Had my 14th podcast last night. Seth Stohs was my guest. We talked his baseball playing days in high school and college, how he came to work for Marvin Windows as well as starting to write and blog about his different passions, and how he helped start Twins Daily. Amazing enough, we didn't talk Minnesota Twins baseball all that much, but we promised to save that for the next time we chat. Please give it a listen!

I had my 15th podcast last night. Nick Tuckner was my guest. He is the sports director at KDWA radio in Hastings, MN. (AM 1460/FM 97.7, as well as on tune-in radio.) I've known Nick since my high school days, so it was fun to catch up and re-hash our younger playing days, as well as get caught up on his radio job now calling Hastings, MN and Prescott, WI sports. Nick had a really fun story to tell at the end as well about the time he remembered falling in love with baseball. Stories like that are why I wanted to start the podcast in the first place. Please give it a listen!

For those of you that are interested; his Hastings Raiders are playing at my Park (Cottage Grove) Wolfpack tonight in football. Nick will be calling the game. I haven't been to a high school football game since, well, I was in high school. That said, I will probably keep an eye out for Nick's call. He is great!

I had my 16th podcast last night. I did the podcast on a Tuesday night, which has not been the norm for me (typically I do the show on Thursday nights) but this one made sense for my guests, Town Ball Tuesdays. It also felt more appropriate. Ryan and Marty are two guys who run a facebook and instagram page, as well as a wordpress blog detailing their travels every Tuesday throughout the summer months to different townball games in and around Minnesota. The photos they take on their site are really great, and it was fun hearing about their experiences over the last 3 years of travels in the people they meet and the fields they got to see. We also chatted how concessions stands across the state, there are some really great options for cheese curds at a few fields, but a surprising lack of sweet corn options (business opportunity?) Please give it a listen!

I had my 17th episode last night. Jamie Cameron was my guest. Jamie and I have met through twitter as being fans of the Twins, and it was fun to catch up and chat on the show. We talked about his childhood growing up in London, how he came to appreciate and love baseball and Minnesota sports in general, and what he thinks the Twins should do this offseason. Please give it a listen!

I had my 20th podcast last night. Myjah from Twinkietown was my guest. She was really awesome to talk with. We spoke some about the Twins, but a LOT about her love of baseball and what that entails. We also discussed her work with twinkietown and what she tries to accomplish with connecting to fans through social media and running that website. Please give it a listen.

I had my 21st episode last night. Nick Nelson (yes, that one!) was my guest. Nick is one of the owners/creators of Twins Daily, and it was really fun to chat with him. We talked about what got him into writing, why he loves the sport of baseball, and all the work it took to put the offseason handbook together (just want to say, everyone reading this specific post should absolutely purchase the handbook!) We also talked about a few articles he has written lately, and then dove into a few questions about specific players the offseason handbook has the Twins acquiring. Please give it a listen!
