Article: Gee, The Twins Signed A Pitcher

Recommended Posts

Sincere question: do the twins promote guys much slower than most teams? It sure seems that way to me

Probably not. Berrios, Buxton, Sano, Kepler etc are all pretty young.

Last year, Stewart and Gonsalves were two of the youngest guys in AA. Romero was promoted straight to AA after recovering from surgery. Barring injury, our guys seem to be promoted after a half season or so if their performance dictates it.

Definitely not slower to promote. They might be lighter on talent than other farm systems though.

The article also mentioned that Gardy was saying Justin Morneau is ready to sign. Hummm. Anyway, wasn't Gee mentioned in the Santana trade waaaay back? The Twins wanted Pelfrey, but the Mets offered Humber or Gee?

Getting a lot of names backing up the rosters at Chattanooga AND Rochester. Be interesting to see who goes where or out in the next couple of weeks!

Remember during spring training when a lot of people were up in arms over the "wealth" of starting pitching we had and how that would probably mean wasting a year of Berrios and Mejia in the minors?

I sure wish we had another Berrios and Mejia in AAA fighting for a spot instead of having to dumpster dive to have somebody throw a few innings so the bullpen doesn't have a rash of arms falling off.

Here is a toast to Trevor May making his return June 1 of next year to Target Field. Health to Ervin, Jose and Alberto along with a little growth and 1 new starter and then maybe we can talk about having a decent league average+ rotation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not that it affects the larger point, but Romero's surgery was in 2014-2015, and he returned at single A last year.

Damn it, I suck. Yep, you're right. He came back and made 5 starts in low A and then was promoted up to A+ for 11 more starts.

I don't think so.  I certainly don't remember Gee's name from back then (and as the puns attest, it's a notable name :) ).

Technically the Mets wouldn't have been allowed to trade Gee at that time (2007-2008 offseason), since he was just drafted in June 2007 -- and even though they could have done the Trea Turner "player to be named later for 6 months" trick, it would have been an odd move considering Gee was only a 21st round pick and relatively unknown at the time.  He was not listed among Sickels' top 20 Mets prospects entering 2008, and never really rose above C/C+ later anyway.  By comparison, Humber was the lowest graded prospect we received per Sickels, at B-, and even he had been a B+ the previous winter and snuck into some national top 100 recognition.

Gee's MLB results remind me a bit of Kyle Gibson's, but for Gibson it has been seen as an under-achievement, while Gee probably gets over-achiever credit.

Gee is better than Heston and Wilk.  That's who he will be replacing.

Interesting tidbit that I have not seen being mentioned, but it is worthwhile:  In Gee's best season in 2013 when he pitched about 200 innings for the Mets, he was teammate with LaTroy Hawkings.

I pretty much assume that by the end of his career, LaTroy Hawkins had been teammates with everyone on Earth. :)

He's so bad the Angels weren't interested, right?

He only made 3 starts in AAA - the first 2 were ok and the 3rd one was bad.  Maybe he had a time limit on his deal with them to either make the majors or release him or they didn't like that last start.
