Didn't know the right words to break the bad news to you, so...

Yes we have a bunch of career minor leaguers that the front office seems to want to take a flyer on. I don't think at this point it would hurt to try some of the young guys

No. This is just fine. This is your Minnesota Twins. All future, no now. Turley should get 5 more starts. I am not going to get into a previous off season here.

Sounds like sarcasm but not sure ;)

Seriously though, this team isn't going to make a run with all the holes on the staff. I mean a real run. This has been fun, but this is not the year. The previous administration left too much work to be done. Kind of like what poor trump is dealing with....I keep I keed

In the post I last responded to, YOU Said 'He had a serviceable first month.'

YOU picked the time frame.  In the first month (April), he ONLY HAD FIVE STARTS. He didn't have six starts.  So I looked at the stats from April (the first month).

The alternative was to go get better pitching (and not count on a guy who is coming off injury and hasn't been good for years).I guess I thought that was obvious, but I didn't say it.  You're right.

While I tend to see Hughes more the way you do than yarnie does, I hope you understand that as a betting man, my money is still on whoever gets to the chainsaw first...

Who are these better pitchers that you apparently believe were just sitting around waiting for the Twins to call?

Just to reiterate, the top free agent starting pitcher this past offseason was Bartolo Colon.

It's not like releasing Hughes was a realistic option. With him ending last season on the DL, I'm not even sure it was a "legal" option.

It's really somewhat irrelevant how effective Hughes was or how lucky. Given his contract status, he was going and IS going to be in the rotation as long as he is physically able to pitch at all.

I hope you're right. Remember, they could go outside the organization and find all-new career minor leaguers too.

What moves though? Not trying to be a D, but the team is down two starters and had a whole lot of holes to fill coming into the year. What were they going to do, carry 8 starting pitchers just in case they'd be over .500 in June?

Morton, Blanton, Cashner, Volquez, Holland etc, all signed deals around $7M, and would've been perextely adequate filler. Not saying they needed to go out and break the bank...and there is plenty of room on the 40-man.

Not sure why throwing the season before it starts is a favorable option to planning to at least try and compete.

It's also not unreasonable to expect that Hughes would end up on the DL. He's been on there frequently enough. Gibson has never been reliable. Mejia and Berrios were unknowns at that time. Samtiagos peripherals could tell you that he's never been good.

I just don't understand why it's so unreasonable to expect them to make an attempt for a few million bucks. Why it's unreasonable to think there is room on this terrible 40-man. Is that really where our standards are?

Seriously? Keep your politics to yourself. Not here.Site rules, and all. There are places for it, even on this site. This isn't one of them. :banghead:

It is even more demoralizing that the offense has mustered one hit, and seems to have given up, too.

Well, at least they got that hit (and now a couple of extras), so we don't have to root for Gimenez to pitch a scoreless inning AND break up a Cleveland no-hitter in the ninth.
