Article: Twins Draft Blayne Enlow, Seven More

1:07 The Twins seemed to over draft (under slot) all three guys. Assuming spreading 200K around on lesser players doesn't really matter, what's their plan, do you think?

1:07 Heard they were on other Boras advisees during last night's selections but nothing came to fruition. Lewis is a Boras guy, so maybe the Twins are doing some math together with Scott and we'll see them show their work today?
They're picking now.
1:08 Blayne Enlow, RHP, St. Amat HS (LA)
1:09 #33 overall on my board, chance for plus fastball and curveball, had one of the better max curveball spin rates measured on the showcase circuit (2700+ rpm)
Reds take LHP Jacob Heatherly, Cullman HS (AL)

Props to Jeremy for hitting this one in his mock!

35th overall (comp round A): $1,935,300: RHP Blayne Enlow, Louisiana prep. Enlow is a long (6’ 4”), powerful (mid-90s) right-handed pitcher who has impressed this year. I expect the Twins to draft more high-upside pitchers this year… (BA: 33; MLB: 29)

The first signability question. pick. Extra allotment $$ may be in play here.

From minorleagueball.com:

"PROJECTION

Enlow projects as a mid-rotation starter, although he could be more than that if his fastball reaches its maximum potential and if the change-up develops into a plus pitch. He’s being mentioned as a late first round or supplemental round possibility on draft day and he’ll definitely need to be selected early due to the signability issues. College becomes increasingly likely if he gets too far past the top of the second round."

Things are starting to come together a bit more, right?

Would we be less confused if it went 1 - Lewis, 2 - Enlow, 3 - Rooker, 4 - Leach? At the end of the day the order doesn't matter if they all sign, but there's some real talent in there.

It sure would have made more sense. And seems riskier.

So we pretty much drafted Enlow where Leach was expected to go, and Leach where Enlow was expected to go.

Seems like the money should be pretty close to slot value when considering the combination of Leach and Enlow, so hopefully the Twins still have most of the Lewis/Rooker savings to work with.
