Article: Game Thread: Twins v Rays, 5/26 @ 7:10pm CT

Recommended Posts

Our Twins return home carrying a four-game winning streak. It was a quick, three-win roadtrip to Baltimore and right back home to face the Rays for a weekend series. That is like the ideal trip to the store. You find a parking spot by the door, you walk in and right there is the grill you came for. You head to the counter to pay for it and you walk past a cooler that you also need, so you grab that. The lines are long but just as you arrive a brand new register light comes on, so you avoid the lines. As the cashier rings up the purchases, you notice that licorice you like in the impulse buy rack, so you grab a bag. After the cashier informs you that all these items were 50% off, you pay and off you go with the whole experience taking 5 minutes.

BTW… that has never happened in my life so I’m not really sure what happened in Baltimore.

Here are some things to think about:

1. Grand Marais – In the northeast part of Minnesota, that pointy part, the part that looks like the carrot on the snowman, is the city of Grand Marais. Grand Marais in Ojibwe means, “Stop go back… there is nothing else out there.” According to the brochures… the land surrounding Grand Marais slopes up to form Sawtooth Bluff which is adjacent to Pincushion Mountain. It’s not really a mountain… it’s really a very large pincushion named Mountain. There are actual pins stuck in Pinchushion Mountain so it is functional, you can’t see them… because they are actual size.

2. Our Twins – We have a fairly warm team offensively of recent days. In the last seven, we have nine players with an OBP over .370. The bullpen had a real nice week and we got some good starts out of Santana and Berrios. Add all that up and we are going to the World Series!!!

3. The Rays – Sitting at .500 currently, these guys can play a little. The rotation is productive from 1 to 5 and not one of them has an ERA over 3.82. The bullpen hasn’t been leaking either. On offense they've got a couple of guys playing above normal with Corey Dickerson and Logan Morrison acting like all-stars. If you are Scandinavian... you can hit for the Rays just like sons of Dicker and Morris.

4. Today’s Joe M Conversation

Montana: Hey, Joe… that hole you're digging is getting kinda deep there.

McCarthy: I’m planting a couple of bushes. I’m gonna call them George and Jeb

Maddon: Why not Randy or Matt?

McCarthy: Get your own bushes and name them what you want.

Maddon: I already have a Randy Bush.

Montana: That’s seriously a deep hole. You are gonna come out the other side.

Mauer: I read somewhere… if you did that… You’d come out in the Indian Ocean.

Montana: The Indian Ocean? That will probably end up flooding the backyard… I’d stop, Joe.

Maddon: It’s impossible to dig a hole through the entire earth. The core is hot… around 9,000 degrees.

Montana: You’ll need a special suit or something.

Mauer: I’ll get the tin foil.

5. Psycho – I’m not normal but nobody ever accused me of being psycho. However, every path I’ve walked down in my life is now called the Psycho Path.

I'm anxious for the game too, but Riverbrian, it's not 7:00 am yet.

You're an odd guy.

My favorite number is even so I am trying to normalize a little.

This is the only time available to post with my schedule. If it isn't posted by 8AM... do a welfare check on my behalf.

Can someone translate this for me?  I don't understand a word of that and I think it may actually be against the rules.

In all seriousness though, this should be a pretty good test for the lineup.  Their rotation when compared to Baltimore's is like night and day and the Twins don't have their rotation horses going in this series.

I once had an argument with a math teacher over what I considered an odd number...8 is pretty weird.  (Wright)

The licorice was a big tub of Red Vines right?  Although, in this analogy, something slightly not perfect has to happen near the end, to equate to the two homers Berrios gave up.  So maybe the licorice was Twizzlers.

Good point.  This test will indeed be tricky, with no Santana or Berrios going the Twins are going to have to produce with the bats.  The one explosion in Baltimore was against a going-down-in-flames Ubaldo Jimenez.   Doing the same thing against the likes of Archer, Odorizzi and Cobb will take more effort.  The Twins are going to need to score 4-5 runs in more than one game in this series to win it.

OK, will do.  Hadn't thought of that.

Usually, I consider doing a welfare check on you after I read your game thread intro.

I don't know about that. If you receive a letter from the IRS that says you owe $20,000 and then you receive a letter from your lawyer that says you owe $10,000, add both together and it comes to $30K

Wouldn't adding the letters together technically be like one massive word jumble with two mismatched letterheads combining to make one big incoherent mess?  That could actually be kinda fun and you could probably make it work out that the IRS owes you $20k and your lawyer owes you $10k.  Profit!

I've always favored the number x, but it took a while to figure out what it was!

For you I would recommend ħ (pronounced h-hat or h-bar). The constant ħ is the reduced Planck constant, [h / (2π)]. It's equal to 6.582119514(40)×10−16 eV-sec.

Don't confuse it (on your freaking life) for Ĥ, which is the Hamiltonian Operator corresponding to the total energy of a system.

Wait.  If you're typing this on a computer, it's all just 1's and 0's.  Letters can be added together.  The letter i is hexadecimal 69 which is binary 1101001...it's all ball bearing these days!

Yeah, thank you very much Hex takes me back to my days of web design. It was a riot embedding hex into html for color values.
