Viruses in ads

Recommended Posts

You guys need to tone down the ads and be more selective about who you serve ads from. It has happened more than once on this site where one of the ads triggers my antivirus, or the page gets hijacked and I end up on another website without clicking on anything.

I understand you need ads for cash, but it is also your responsibility ensure that you are not causing security problems for your website visitors.

It would be very helpful to Brock if you have an errant ad, to take a screen shot of it and send it to him.

Wonderful idea. Unfortunately there are at least half a dozen ads on every page. How am I to know which one hijacked my browser and/or triggered my antivirus?

This is the responsibility of the site owner.

Like so many things said on this site, easy to say in principle, damned near impossible to implement in practice.

I don't see the ads you see. We have a managed ad service that squashes bad ads as soon as they're aware of them but if no one makes them aware, the ad cannot be blacklisted.

For the record, most anti-virus software gives false positives on "viruses" in ads all the freakin' time. Sloppy ad code + overly ambiguous software parameters = fake virus.

That isn't true at all. Twinsdaily is literally the only site I visit that continues to have these issues, I have offered you no less than 5 times to fix this issue for you guys for free. The extremely modest gains you see in eCPM prices are whipped out exponentially by:

-people running ad blocker

-people who just won't come to the site

It's.Not.Difficult.

Considering my browser window was hijacked at the same moment the antivirus popped up, there was clearly no "false positive."

There are dozens of ad services out there. If the one you are using can't properly police itself and you know this but continue to use them, it's on you if something happens to our computers.
