Ervin Santana, concerned?

Recommended Posts

Just working ahead in the count was so important. I was at the Angels game where Pujols hit his 600th, it just seemed that all night he was falling behind in the count, last night he was consistently ahead in the count. I'm sure all pitchers go through it, some bad outings and some really good ones. As long as Erv can limit his bad ones he will be the Twins best option. I don't think they should trade him, they need him and they need to sign a legit FA in the off season to go with him and Berrios et al...

This was his third complete game shutout of the season....  it's rare to see that these days and 3 by mid-June is rather impressive.

True.

And we will make another thread just like this one the next time he has a bad game.

Lemmings, I tell ya. :D

I've been kind of on the fence about whether to trade Santana while he's hot. Obviously he's not going to throw a shutout each time he scales the micro mountain, but I think his Zen-like calm is having a very beneficial effect on the rest of the pitching staff. Berrios seems fascinated as he studies every pitch his mentor flicks through the zone, while the bullpen lazes in the outfield, passing a doob and trading crazy stories. It makes for a very relaxing few hours.

If nothing else, I'd keep him around as a mentor for Berrios. If he pitches okay, that's just a bonus.
