Article: Twins Claim LHP Adam Wilk From Mets

Recommended Posts

The most entertaining thing about this move is why they Mets released Wilk: they  had to make room for Tommy Milone. Who, of course is left-handed and started for the Twins.

I cannot figure out why this team is so damn determined to keep Berrios in AAA.

One of life's many mysteries, John...

As Mike Sixel would say mind.boggling.

I feel like Terry Ryan would have called up Jason Wheeler to make a start if that's what they wanted to do, rather than claiming a Wheeler-like guy.

It does make me wonder what they're (Falvey/Levine) are seeing or not seeing from Berrios. I get that they want to make sure the mechanical changes he made stick, and if he's still doing the things that he was doing in the big leagues, I get it.

But this is just a guy who (like Tepesch) can make 1-2-3 starts while we wait for something from Gibson, Mejia and Berrios.

Exactly.

I hope Falvey has an explanation that satisfies the players or he risks losing their respect and possibly their effort in a real hurry.

I hope he has an explanation that satisfies me or he risks losing my respect. Although they might not have been the moves that I would've made, I've been able to get my head around all of the new FO's moves to this point. But this one just doesn't make any sense to me. At all.

Wilk has thrown 663 innings in AAA. He is not a capable starter and might pass off as a mop up reliever, but we already have Haley. I don't get this move... Wilk has no upside. We have better guys in AAA (Wheeler, Hurlbut) but I guess we going full steam ahead on the 28-29 year old retreads.

This move would make more sense for the 2016 Twins destined to tank for the 1st overall pick. While I'm fine that this team isn't that interested in competing right now, why not call give Jason Wheeler or even David Hurlbut a chance? I can't believe we have Tepesch, Rucinski, and Wilk taking up 40 man roster spots.

Wheeler is on the other line...says he wants to know what he needs to do to get a shot and would be happy to make an appearance on the 40 man roster.

Be 28/29, never have been a good prospect, and come from outside the organization.

This is the same FO that wanted a 35 yo DH, rather than Vargas or Park (that signing was before any injuries or WBC). Their actions are pretty clear.

Do people still think this team is interested in winning THIS YEAR, given these last few promotions?

Silver lining: this should alleviate some anxiety about trades for a rental at the deadline.

"AAA statistics don't matter, but the only way to know Berrios can handle another MLB stint is to continue to feed him innings at AAA and make assessments based on his performance."

That rationale makes sense if you just don't think about it....

Maybe the Twins are tanking to get another top draft pick.

I honestly can't think of a decent rationale to pick up Adam Wilk  and give him a major league start.

I cannot think of a rationale for giving another start to Nick Tepesch.

Clearly, this team does not want me to buy tickets again this year.

I'd rather see Wimmers get the chance over this guy. I mean, if the choices are bad or bad, why not go with someone in your own system.

Or give Nik Turley a shot.

What could they reasonably be hoping for from Wilk? A 4.50 ERA by way of smoke and mirrors for a few starts is probably the ceiling.

Berrios should be up, but your mockery doesn't make any sense. You really think they care even a little bit about Berrios AAA stats?

Will the AAA stats still not matter if he puts up a 9.00 ERA over his next 4 starts?

I have a funny feeling that if the stats were bad they would suddenly matter.

This move is nuts, but I suspect it is very short term and then they'll DFA him to make room for someone else, which is why they don't want to call up someone like Wheeler.

But come on, Berrios.

Like Tepesch only getting 1 start, then being sent back down?
