So I have had no less than 3 posts deleted by the overzealous moderation team in the past 48 hours, all of which were responding directly to people bringing up Aaron hicks and how he can't "keep this up" etc

 

Just worth bringing attention to this weird issue.

 

I understand somewhat about you moving my hicks thread, but now to censor me to not even mutter the word Hicks in response to specific posts saying Hicks isn't good/hasn't turned a corner?

When a thread isn't about Hicks, it doesn't mean his name can never be mentioned in a passing comment in a post. But it does mean that a thread should not be derailed and the subject of that thread hi-jacked to post ad nauseam about a pet topic. You don't need to respond to every single Hicks comment with lengthy posts about Hicks and not the thread subject at hand. We routinely remove posts that are off-topic as stipulated in the posting policies. Some threads after a certain length of time when the subject itself has been exhausted, yeah, who cares; but a new thread only a couple pages in? No. Your posts weren't passing comments but derailments.

You should advise people that if their sensitive hearts can't handle it, they should learn how to use the ignore feature.

No it would be more fair to the entire community to enforce the posting policies when it comes to steering conversations off topic, thread jacking and inserting pet topics into every post. It wouldn't make sense to make an exception for one poster just because it's fun for him or her to do so.

I will tone down the Hicks stuff in the Twins forum (I already have! The only responses this week were literally when someone else brought him up)

For the game threads: I do apologize if that was annoying you guys, those posts were getting a lot of likes and I thought it was a fun little bit (that some people seemed to at least like) the gamethreads are wacky and off topic anyways, an occasional random red flashing light bit I thought was light hearted.

For the game threads: I do apologize if that was annoying you guys, those posts were getting a lot of likes and I thought it was a fun little bit (that some people seemed to at least like) the gamethreads are wacky and off topic anyways, an occasional random red flashing light bit I thought was light hearted.

As I've said to many people many times ... it's one thing to mention a tangent or player as an example to the larger point; it's another to go off on the tangent and redirect the subject of the thread. That's what we try to do to keep things to topic and help facilitate discussion. At some point in the thread, when the subject itself has been hashed and nothing more can be said that hasn't already been said, yeah, I don't really care. People are going to mention Hicks for various reasons, but that doesn't mean that it's an open invitation to take the tangent and run with it. Yes, it is a subjective thing of when 'tangent running' is okay, but early on in a thread is definitely not the place for it. We don't want to have every thread devolve into the same topic. It happens frequently, for instance, with the mention of the FO. Yes, the FO is involved in most every topic discussed and I can understand when that gets mentioned in most threads ... but that doesn't mean we need to take every topic we discuss and turn it into a FO discussion.

 

As to your other point of the game threads, yeah, the 1st time was funny; the 2nd time, yeah, still room for a 'heh,' the third time, 'eyeroll, whatever,' the 4th time ... 'Dave, man, come on ... you've ruined your own joke.' Many of us don't know when to let a good joke go, and timing is everything, but there is a point where it becomes too much. Yeah, Hicks has kind of become your 'schtick' ... and okay, I get the 'all in fun thing,' sort of ... but too much of it and we just start getting complaints of trolling, and the 'all in fun' goes out the window for most. So, I appreciate that you've backed away from this particular schtick and are letting it rest. But the next schtick of yours that comes up, keep this in mind - too much of a good thing is just too much.

Let's hope every Hicks post gets deleted from game threads, not just Dave's. 

 

I got no skin in this game, other than I have no issue with the signature, and can't understand how that is an issue to anyone else. Recalls the days i was told not spell Matty G's name like the cheese, as if that somehow offended people. Way too serious here sometimes.

 

edit: and yes, Dave, you shouldn't post in every thread, not even in reply, imo. sometimes you just gotta let it go, my friend who I have never met.
