?? I'm not sure what one has to do with the other. Allen's an admitted alcoholic who fell off the wagon. That's both sad and scary, regardless of how you think it affects his job. Harvey was partying and lied about it. Showing, in my view, a lot of disrespect to his teammates and toward his job. I feel bad for Allen and feel ok mocking Harvey.

That doesn't mean I'd oppose having Harvey because I'm a crazy fan who roots (usually) for the jersey even if the player is a complete POS (Adrian Peterson being one of the few exceptions). A Gibson/Harvey swap would be great.

The point is that you cannot oppose Harvey on character issues and on the same time be ok with Allen's (and Molitor's) character issues.

Sure you can. Molitor and Allen were/are addicts which is a pretty severe problem. Harvey is acting like a spoiled frat boy who can't get his **** ****** by a super model. But no one is "opposing" Harvey so much as saying, "what an ass."

I'd be more worried about an addict than someone that goes out once in awhile. Not opposed to either having a job, just that an addict, by definition, is more likely to repeat and be a negative asset.

nice dig on all fraternity people, btw.

Let's stay on topic, please, and not take unnecessary 'digs' at anyone ... players, managers/coaches, addicts, alcoholics or frat boys. We can have this discussion about Matt Harvey, even bringing into it other players with similar issues, without taking unnecessary pot shots. I know some have less sympathy than others with issues of substance abuse, but try not to make that the tangent of discussion. If you want that to be the discussion, start a thread in the Sport Bar.

Dave.  He's pinning it on the Mets for not keeping it "in house".

I actually think both sides are wrong. I know that is hard to grasp in this day of winners and losers. But both sides are at fault.

Dave, are you aware that Matt Harvey already has over 4 years service time?  He's making over $5 mil this year, will get arbitration again next year, and then become a free agent after 2018.

Yes, I am well aware. I would still trade them someone like Rosario straight up for him.

What if Harvey is an addict? Does your tune change then?

Well, that's not what you said earlier.  And while I'd agree the Mets could have handled it better, Harvey hasn't exactly made this process easy either.  It's hard to have a good plan for how to respond to something like this when he's lying his way through the whole thing.

Sure but let's take this all down a notch. This is a rich baseball player staying out all night getting drunk and blowing off work the next day.  I did this when I was in college too.  My boss caught me and I damn near lost my job.  I think we can all sit back and comfortably enjoy this muck up without having to create mountains or drag in alcoholics.  It's a rich ass acting like an ass and being forced to apologize for it. I don't think we've evolved so much that we can't all enjoy that at least on a superficial level.

Just wondering if people who were interested in getting Harvey feel differently after his Pelfrey-quality game last night against the Brewers?

I think the thought process on Harvey is 1) he needs a change of scenery 2) nothing in NY matters anymore 3) Not sure if Niel Allen is the guy to fix him 4) If Gibson is the cost, I'd do it 5) if it's more, I wouldn't.
