2017 NFL Draft Chat

The Bears got duped by a first time GM.... Trading picks #3, #67, #111, and a 2018 3rd in order to move up one spot and take QB Mitch Trubisky... A guy with 13 career starts in college.

The Chiefs also mortgaged their future to move up 17 spots and take project QB Pat Mahomes at #10 overall.

2 RBs are off the board - Fournette to the Jaguars, and McCaffery to the Panthers.

The Browns appear to be not screwing this up. And they're stockpiling a boat load of draft picks for next year too.

Only 2 OL were selected last night... Is it really that bad of a draft for OL? If so, that's bad timing for the Vikings.

It is an unprepared group of OL, to be sure. But, someone has to play OL. Getting the best of a mediocre group is better than getting the worst.

No issue with the Chiefs move, they aren't probably giving up TOP picks. The Bears? WTH were the Bears doing? No one should like that QB that much. Wow.

The Browns and 49ers had very good drafts, imo. Assuming GB gets an OL or EDGE or CB, and then gets more of those, they did well yesterday.

I probably don't take Fournette that high, or McCaffery. But that's mostly because I think RBs are over rated at this point. OTOH, it's clear Elliot helped the 'boys.

I agree, I like Cook, the Stanford kid, and Kamara more than Fournette.

I'd still take Alvin Kamara if he falls to us too.

Also, the Texans just gave the Browns their first and second next year because they can't figure out their QB situation.

The Browns and Niners had brilliant nights, the Bears and Texans looked like idiots.

Some solid OL, RB, and DL on the board still - I'm good with any of those.

I'd take Kamara if Lamp, Robinson, and the the top 2 DL are gone, maybe. But, it will be hard to pass on some of the DBs if they are there.

I just think they can survive with these RBs, and get one next year if needed. But, they really need a RG and DT (especially if Floyd is iffy, as he appears to be).

You're right, it depends on who is there.  Feeney, Dawkins, Lamp, and Robinson would all be guys I'd consider over Kamara.  I just see Kamara as a LeVeon Bell-light type of back, that has enormous value.

There are a few DL I'd consider too - McDowell comes to mind.  Budda Baker and a few DBs too.

I guess the long way of saying - they'll have some good options by the time they pick.  Possibly into the third as well.

I'm calling it. Leonard Fournette is going to be a bust. I felt the same way about Trent Richardson.

I'm excited to see what he can do in Jacksonville. The dude basically took last year off so he wouldn't get hurt, but the season before that he was a beast.

The NFL Network guys were salivating over him last night, mentioning multiple times that he "runs angry"

If he does turn out to be what most people think, then Jacksonville has a really nice looking set of skill position players, especially if Bortles plays more like the 2015 version.

There are still some very solid OL on the board.

And we just traded up to get Elfein as I post this.  So there is a G/C combo guy and at 86 we may still be able to get another guy.

There are some good DTs still out there too.  Brantley could be a steal.

Has anyone seen an overall count of Spielman's draft pick plus/minus over the years? I know he has a reputation for being willing to trade up to get his guy. I'm just curious how many later round picks he has given up over the years to do that.

They got 104, 132, and 160 something for pick 86.  Basically gave them back the picks they used to trade up.

Yeah, they have been pretty good about that. I'd just like to know where the accounting has them overall.

The net result of the two trade-downs is moving from 86 to 109 while adding 132, 219, and 245.

If (big if) it holds, that will make 19 7th rounders for the Vikings since 2010.

Stephen Weatherly

Jayron Kearse

Austin Shepherd

Edmond Robinson

Shamar Stephen

Brandon Watts

Jabari Price

Michael Mauti

Travis Bond

Everett Dawkins

Audie Cole

Trevor Guyton

D'Aundre Reed

Stephen Burton

Mickey Shuler

Ryan D'Imperio

Stephen is the only one of the 16 to start the majority of games in any season.

Trader Rick likes having 8-10 picks per draft IIRC...

I like the fact that they have 3 4th rounders, there is a ton of solid value in this round IMO.

I do love the fact that the Vikes have taken high upside guys with each pick:

Cook- If you look at the on the field product: He honestly could have been considered the 2nd best RB in the draft. He has "concerns" but nowhere near what Mixon had.

Jaleel Johnson-Slid down because of a bad combine. Who cares about the combine? He's a 315 pound DT, it's all about game tape with those types of guy.

The center (name I forget) seemed very good as well.
