Article: Twins Minor League Report (4/25): Berrios, Romero, and... Turley? Oh My!

Recommended Posts

You could have said the same thing about Nick Tepesch a couple days ago.  Or, frankly, Michael "Walking DFA" Tonkin.  We've got an 8 man bullpen, and not a particularly strong one, there are plenty of opportunities to evaluate new players like Turley if they warrant it.

I'd probably get Turley in AAA immediately, and if his success carries over, get him up to MLB.  He's not the kind of player you make repeat his success for X number of months at a level before his next challenge.

Sure, I agree with that on Turley. He's not worth the effort to casually move through the system. You jump him to the next level and see what happens. I think he's 27 years old so if he's going to be an asset, it will happen soon.

Either way, I'm hoping the bullpen gets a good cleaning in the next 30 days.

Nobody is looking at Turley as a "prospect." But that's a very nice signing. If he can do as well as Boshers did last year, it's a terrific signing. Sometimes guys figure out something later and can fill a nice role in the big leagues.

We need to stop worrying about ages to level when it comes to org guys who hopefully or could potentially fill a small role in the big leagues.

He's 27, not 37... what if he was a diamond in the rough that the Twins found and he's able to be a solid lefty reliever in the big leagues for 2-3 years?

Yeah, he could even turn into Rich Hill, who knows? But he also may never even achieve Tommy Milone-ness, so it would be good to see how he does in AAA before getting too excited.

How is Berrios's command? Are his Ks inflated and walks suppressed due to AAA hitters swinging at pitches guys in the show would lay off of?

His problem in the bigs was control, not stuff. With Mejia not taking advantage of his opportunity, I'm hoping that Berrios is ready to join the big club for good.

In the video linked in the article, they go through every one of his K's from his outing.

I think they were split pretty good between breaking balls and 2-seamers/change-ups, and I'd venture there were a few of them that MLB hitters wouldn't offer at (several were caught in the dirt). Only one of them was a called strike.

Disappointed in blankenhorn. Thought he'd be doing better or in ft. Myers. Cabbage is starting to look like a bust. Too bad. Really liked those two picks. Gordon looking good. I'm high on Vielma too. If Greene is our pick I think he's instantly our top prospect. McKay might be too, but I'd probably put him at 2.

Hope we get some more infield help in the draft. In the first 10 rounds we should probably draft 7 pitchers and rest be infield help
