Eduardo Del Rosario - 2017

Recommended Posts

Eduardo Del Rosario, 21, was a late-2012 international signing by the Twins out of the Dominican Republic.

Del Rosario started the season opener for the Cedar Rapids Kernels this afternoon after a rainout forced a 7-inning double header to be played today. Cedar Rapids won, 4-0.

Del Rosario's pitching line:

  • 6.0 IP, two hits, no runs, with a 1:7 BB:SO
  • Strikeouts and walks: 7 Ks in 21 batters faced = 33%

One of the hits was a bunt single.

Here is the box score

I have not laid eyes on him, but reports are the Del Rosario's fastball sits low 90s, and he is developing some additional pitches. He played in rookie ball for three seasons, before debuting with Cedar Rapids June 5 last season. He put up a very good line: 6-2, 3.67 ERA in 16 games.

Twinsdaily.com has additional info about him, which I will crosslink in future posts.

Seems like he should be at Fort Myers by midseason at the latest.

Here's a photo from the back fields in Spring Training 2017, where you can see his grip, for whatever that is worth, as a complement to Bob Sacamento's nice video:

And, on another pitch, his follow-through:

Del Rosario's second game pitching line:

  • 4.2 IP, 3 hits, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO

Cedar Rapids defeated Kane County 4-1 this afternoon, but it was an interesting outing for Del Rosario.

The morning started out well (travel day; first pitch 11:00 AM). Del Rosario retired the first four batters on swinging strikeouts. The first batter actually reached on a strikeout- wild pitch, but was then thrown out stealing by Rortvedt.

The second and third innings went 1-2-3, and the next Kane County guy didn't reach base until two outs in the fourth, when del Rosario surrendered a hit, then a walk, but retired the next batter without a run scoring.

Then came the fifth. According to the MiLB game log, Del Rosario's fifth inning read like this: line drive single, pop out, hit batsman, line drive single, swinging strikeout, and base on balls (forcing home a run). Del Rosario was pulled after that, and Kernels relievers Vasquez and Davis held Kane County scoreless for the final 4.1 innings.

Oh, those pesky 11 AM starts.

Del Rosario's turn in the rotation came up again this morning, as Cedar Rapids finished up a road series in Peoria before boarding the bus home. The Kernels lost 15-3. Del Rosario's previous start was also an 11 AM start.

Del Rosario's line today:

  • 2 IP, 8 hits, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO

He faced 16 batters, threw 56 pitches, his GB:FB ratio was 0:5. He allowed three runs in the first, two in the second (leaving the bases loaded), and did not come out to pitch the third.

Del Rosario's next start is scheduled for Monday night in Cedar Rapids, first pitch at 6:35 PM (edit: assuming a five man rotation).

Ahh, those wonderful night games.

Del Rosario's line:

  • 7 IP, 5 hits, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K

He faced 26 batters, threw 62 strikes in 92 pitches, GB to FB was 6:3. He picked off a baserunner.

Del Rosario most recently pitched on May 2, in a home start against the visiting Lake County Captains, from Ohio. Cedar Rapids won, 7-3.

  • 4 IP, 5 hits, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO

Del Rosario escaped an interesting first inning, which began with a base on balls, followed by a caught stealing, a strikeout, a base hit, passed ball, and another hit with the runner being thrown out at the plate.

After three apparently quiet innings, Del Rosario got into trouble in the fifth. He left after the first five batters reached base (hit, walk, hit, walk, error).

Del Rosario pitched on May 8, when Cedar Rapids lost to Dayton, 4-1.

Del Rosario's line:

  • 3.2 IP, 4 hits, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 SO

Del Rosario breezes through the first three innings, allowing only a walk.

In the fourth, the opposing line up gets to him: single, strike out, walk, fly out, single, single, single, walk, walk, before being lifted from the game. The MiLB game log calls each of the singles line drives.

Del Rosario pitched on May 20, when Cedar Rapids defeated the Wisconsin TimberRattlers, 4-2.

Del Rosario turned in a much-needed good performance:

  • 8 IP, 5 hits, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO

The only runs against the Kernels came in the 8th, on a two-out, two-run double surrendered to Wisconsin's Demi Orimoloye, a fourth round pick in 2015 who was born in Nigeria and grew up in Ottawa.

Cedar Rapids defeated the Clinton LumberKings earlier this evening, 9-2, behind another good performance by Eddie Del Rosario.

  • 6 IP, 3 hits, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 9 SO

Del Rosario faced 24 batters; his strike out rates remain high. One last note: With a runner on first and two outs in the sixth, Del Rosario threw a wild pitch, followed by a passed ball, to move the runner to third, but the runner did not score.

Del Rosario started May 30 against Quad Cities. The Kernels lost 8-2.

Del Rosario's line:

  • 4.2 IP, 10 hits, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 6 SO

Of note: The MiLB game log records 7 of the 10 hits as ground ball singles. Nevertheless QC worked four walks off of Del Rosario and pushed him past 100 pitches into the fifth innings.

Del Rosario then started on June 4 at Burlington. Cedar Rapids won 11-6, but it was one of Del Rosario's roughest outings.

His line:

  • 5 IP, 8 hits, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO

Del Rosario's inning by inning performance, as read off of the MiLB game log

1st inning: Del Rosario retires the first two batters, then Burlington rallies to score two runs, leaving the bases loaded.

2nd inning: Del Rosario retires the first two batters, then hits two batters, before retiring the final batter with two left on base.

3rd inning: Del Rosario (stop me if you've heard this one) retires the first two batters, then Burlington rallies to again score two runs.

4th inning: Del Rosario allows a lead-off single but the inning ends on a double play.

5th inning: 1-2-3.

It's a poor outing, but with a good bounce here or there, it may have been a good outing. Game of inches.

Del Rosario faced 26 batters, hit two batters, and threw two wild pitches.

Del Rosario's most recent start was June 22 at Quad Cities. This was the first game following the all star break, and Del Rosario turned in a very good effort.

His pitching line June 22:

  • 6 IP, 2 hits, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO

Colton Davis and Hector Lujan combined to pitch three perfect innings at the end.

Del Rosario started for the Kernels earlier this afternoon, June 28, in a 5-2 loss to Burlington. The Bees scored all their runs in a 5-run third inning.

  • 5.1 IP, 3 hits, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 4 SO

Del Rosario walked three batters in the third, eventually surrendering a 3-run home run that inning.

Otherwise, Del Rosario retired the side in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings, before running into trouble again in the 6th. Del Rosario was at 76 pitches when he was lifted.

July 17:

  • 6.0 IP, 5 hits, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO

The 2017 season was Eddie Del Rosario's fifth season in the organization.

Del Rosario began as the Opening Day starter for Cedar Rapids, throwing six shutout innings in that game. He battled through inconsistency the first part of the year to finally earn a promotion to Ft. Myers in July. Del Rosario was inconsistent in Ft. Myers as well, and was reassigned back to Cedar Rapids after four starts to pitch in the bullpen. He was effective in relief with Cedar Rapids, throwing 6.2 scoreless innings over 5 appearances in August. For September, he was then promoted back to Ft. Myers to pitch in relief, but allowed 5 runs in his lone relief appearance there.

It was truly an up-and-down year for Del Rosario.
