Iron Fist (Marvel Netflix)

I think the Defenders has already wrapped production for a summer release, with The Punisher coming near the end of the year.

I was disappointed with Iron Fist, and expect a lot from Defenders.

I have not seen the show. The last time I seen Iron Fist was in a comic book 30 years ago.

I just hope they get rid of those damn yellow slip on shoes. Aesthetics do matter sometimes.

You've all convinced me not to watch it. Of course, I haven't watched any of the Netflix series about heroes....I'm struggling enjoying shows where there is no tension, in that hte good guys are immortal and unharmable, basically.

You should definitely check out Jessica Jones. While she's super-strong and hard to hurt, the show is about manipulation and abuse so her powers are only a small part of the story. IMO, it's the best Netflix series to date and the others aren't that close.

And you should probably check out the first season of Daredevil as well. He's not invulnerable or anything close to it; in fact, he gets his ass kicked more than not in the series.

They managed to make Danny Rand mostly unlikeable.  That doesn't work out so well for a show where he's the main character.  Kinda like Dr. Strange (the movie, no clue about the comics), except much less coolness around the learning how to do the superhero thing.

There was a kinda funny article on Mashable.com (too lazy to look it up right now) about how Ward Meachum was the real "hero" of the show, being the most relatable character really (not counting the whole running a multi-billion dollar company) and Danny Rand was mostly a stalker for the first couple episodes.

But of course I still watched the whole season.  It felt like it was finally building to the point where it was going to be fun, but it took too long to get there.  I'm not sure it'll get another season, but I could easily see that being better than this one as they don't have to slog through as much Danny character-building that doesn't show him in a great light but could move right into the Danny working at being the hero (and hopefully less destructive to his company).

I've watched the other Marvel Netflix shows but the 2nd half of Luke Cage really started turning me off. From all the bad pub I've heard about Iron Fist, I fear if I watch it I'll be out for good. I might skip this one and wait for The Defenders and The Punisher.

Since The Defenders was planned before Iron Fist, I wonder if they just made a slap dash attempt to get Iron Fist established for the big team-up and had less time, resources and/or care to make a better product. But again, I haven't seen it so just speculating on where it's troubles stem from.

Yeah, the second half of Luke Cage fell off a cliff. They had built Harlem into this amazing, vibrant character and Cottonmouth absolutely killed it, stealing the show.

Then the show removed Cottonmouth and replaced him with a paper-thin villain that bored the **** out of me.

Or at minimum the last five minutes of episode 2. Easily the best fight scene in the history of TV (though it borrowed it's concept from the movie Old Boy).

I had to watch it three times, the first two out of awe, the third looking to prove that there weren't any camera tricks. There weren't.

Yeah, that scene is outstanding and they did it again in season two. It didn't have the same impact in season two (because we saw it before) but it was still amazing in its own right.

For the record, I'm enjoying Iron Fist...  Though I'm really trying to figure out why Claire doesn't introduce him to any of the other heros...  kind of maddening.

I'm two episodes from finishing Iron Fist.

Thankfully, it gets better and the characters smooth out a bit. IMO, this show is a lesson about the importance of understanding your characters from the moment they appear on-screen and the importance of starting strong.

The Marvel Netflix shows have lulled at some point in the middle of every series, yet we all hold them in high regard because they grabbed us from the beginning and we were committed when the shows hit bumpy patches.

Iron Fist's first two episodes were horrible. Every character was scattershot and their motivations were all over the place. Even though the show pulls itself together somewhat in later episodes, that audience trust was already broken and hard to repair.

Danny's first 15 minutes on-screen infuriated me. He's completely clueless and naive but smart enough to circumnavigate the globe without a penny to his name and smart enough to sneak into Rand Corp. The first half of the season is full of characters doing stupid things just to move the plot forward. It's bull**** and lazy.

I went back and watched the first season of DD again just to uncover whether I was being unfair to Iron Fist. I'm not. The first few episodes of DD are wonderful, exactly how a series is supposed to start. The characters are smart but inexperienced, the dialogue is snappy and informative, and plot points move forward because they make sense, not because they're convenient.

Upon seeing the script for Iron Fist, the producer should have replied "This is a fine first draft. Now do it again and this time, it needs to make sense. Move some of your later plot points to the beginning and don't piss off the audience. Get rid of the first two episodes. Everything about them."
