Vikings will not pick up AP option

It's well beyond time to move on from him. Good luck to whoever signs him.

Jamaal Charles would be a worthy gamble. The RBs in the draft are supposed to be pretty strong, so I think they could find their next feature back in the draft this year.

Good riddance.  I want to see what Patterson can do as a RB next season, and have them invest in a strong O-line

Interesting idea, I suppose it would be like Ty Montgomery with GB last year. He's not exactly the ideal build but he's quick. And it would minimize his biggest issue which appears to be struggling to nail the technicalities of being a wideout.

I'd be intrigued to see if Patterson has the vision to read blocks and make it as a RB... He's shown he can do that on kick returns, but it's much different to see the blocks 10+ yards away off a kickoff than 3+ yards away out of the shotgun.

I kind of love the idea. Patterson runs like a beast after the catch and doesn't shy from contact. I think he could actually thrive in the role. He reminds me a bit of Percy Harvin with his ability to run after the catch. I always wished they would have put Harvin in the backfield more.

Step one for a successful offseason complete. I wasn't 100% sure this would happen.

Step 1 mostly complete--addition by subtraction--there needs to be a bit more.

Step 2 rebuild the O line by using the cash saved from subtracted players.

Step 3 Obtain a multi-function back.  One who runs, blocks, catches passes, and doesn't turn the ball over.

Any intriguing late-round backs in the draft?

Quite a few, but knowing who is going to be late round or not is hard to tell until after the combine.

I was all about Kamara but it appears the rest of the NFL saw it too and he's projected to be a first rounder now.  But if he slid to our second round pick, I'd be really upset if we passed on him.

But this RB class is really, really deep.

Agreed, they should get a good/decent guy to pair with McKinnon in round 3 or 4 "easily". Lots of backs this year.

Just throwing this out there.... Does anyone have interest in Eddie Lacy? There's a minimal chance he's getting a multi-year contract, given the constant battle with his weight the last 2 years. When healthy and motivated, he is a solid goal line back and someone you could trust running between the tackles.

I just want to concentrate on the passing game, starting with better protection on the line obviously. It seems to me useful running backs tend to magically appear on your roster out of the blue once you get a decent 0-line and a passing game to keep the defense honest.

well, i was on "twins daily" and its "forums" section had a story on the vikings. just now there's one on the t-wolves. is that how the site is supposed to work? (not trying to be snarky ... just curious.)

the right hand side has links to any stories on the forums. If you click on the list of all forums, you will see several that are not about the Twins.....
