If they can cut Kalil when he is terrible again this year, without penalty, I could maybe live with that. Maybe.

Yes, but now my fear after seeing that Wagner deal is that the Vikings are going to wait out Kalil while the remaining options all sign and the Vikings will be left without a chair when the music stops and Kalil goes elsewhere.

I'm not going to denounce Speilman, he's done some really good things in the past, but I've become less and less convinced that he can put a competitive offense together any longer. I'm ready for a new leading man. Or woman, I'm not a misogynist.

Yeah I can't see Kalil agreeing to a contract we would hope for. Minimal guaranteed money off the bat.... and if he hits some goals, such as snaps played, performance things, then more guaranteed money can come into play.

The hot rumor from Mike Florio is Kalil will sign with the Panthers so he can play with his brother.

The Vikings need to strike while the iron is hot. Okung, Reiff, someone....

The best LT available, arguably, appears to be off the board. Per Adam Schefter on Twitter:

"Framework of Andrew Whitworth deal between Rams and @_SportsTrust: 3 years, $36M, $15M guar, including $2.5M guar in Year 2"

I have a buddy with mutual friends of Kalil.  Apparently the Panthers figure is ridiculous.  Like $30M+ guaranteed.  And supposedly 5 years and $55M for the contract.  Which explains why the Vikings passed.  Because they aren't insane.

That is just going off of what he heard from his friend.  So third hand knowledge here, but that is a WAY OVERPAY in my opinion.  I was hoping like 3 years and MAYBE $30M with about $15M guranteed.  Oops.

That seems bizarre to me that at this late stage of his career Whitworth would want to go to a hopeless team like the Rams. The contract doesn't seem overly ridiculous like the one Kalil got, although it is plenty healthy for a 35 year old. I would think the Vikings could have competed with that if he'd given them an opportunity.

If I had to guess, Rick doesn't like older players....and he thinks he's smarter than everyone else about OL, which you'd think he would know better by now....

Looks like a pure money grab before his career is over IMO.

Yeah, lots of people were talking one year deals and other nonsense.  If you're an OL free agent you WILL get paid this offseason.  The Vikes are one of about 25 teams with OL issues.

Yeah, sounds like Zeitler is off the board too.

Damn. Dude got PAID by the Browns. 5 year, $60 million deal with $31.5 million in guarantees

I've been saying back to the VJ days that OL is a league wide problem.  Even with 60M in room we're going to have a helluva time landing anyone.

Time to pony up quick, or we'll be cleaning up scraps.

His age and his decisions for his family.

Can you expand on that? I'm not trying to be argumentative, I don't know why these things would favor the Rams over the Vikings.

He's from Louisiana, so it's not a proximity to family thing.

That was just speculation, I have no idea what would motivate him personally.  I just doubt we were ever on the phone with him or trying to sign him.  So I doubt we'd have had a shot without coveting him right out of the gate.

Got ya.

Which is surprising to me, given our needs on the line and our available cap.

It's a fairly big contract for a guy his age. But he's shown little signs of slowing down, and only 3 million of it is guaranteed after the first year.

Supposedly Ashlon Jeffrey turned down a multi year deal with the Vikes to sign a 1 year deal with the Eagles.

What does that say about Treadwell and/or Thielen?

I think it says the most about our QB and offensive coordinator. I guess being a decoy while Sam completes a bunch of 4 yard dink and dunks doesn't intrigue Jeffrey much.
