Article: Pursuing Jose Bautista Seems Unconventional

Recommended Posts

Define "we" in this sentence.

the world in general.

There seems to be an effect that if a player is positvely viewed, the board takes the word on the street as real (those parts of the board that BELIEVE in leadership being important, not those arguing leadership is less important, that's not the same as saying he's not a good leader), when guys have negative reps, but are good, people say still sign him.

Just like bad dudes that play in the NFL but are great have lots of fans....

My question is who said he wasn't a great leader? From the ESPN stories the only thing I see is other teams don't like him because of his bat flips, some fan in KC doesn't like him because he pretended to throw a ball into the stands, and Steve Phillips says the clubhouse is on eggshells because Bautista needs to play angry. But his current manager and past manager both have good things to say about him.

I'll take the word of his managers over some ex-GM talking head and random fan anyday. I think having someone confident and cocky with a chip on his shoulder who won't just accept losing would be great for the Twins clubhouse.

If the Twins idea is to have a 30 year old Park who has accomplished nothing in the majors taking space, I am willing to spend other peoples money on Jose. The draft pick is a high price to pay but in reality that pick is 3-5 years away from possibly making the majors, and 4-6 from making a real contribution.

I am not a fan of Vargas, I think platooning him is the only option with him. I agree with most others saying pitching is our real need, not hitting.

I'd use a slightly different world than "unconventional", but I guess it would suffice.

Rosenthal is saying today that the Twins are looking at all available DH/1B types, as well...

They Twins options at DH are Vargas, Park, Grossman, Palka and occasionally Mauer or the outfielders. That is GROSS even for a rebuilding team.

We don't need to clog our roster with aging veterans any more.

I don't see who Bautista would be blocking from this roster. Park is unproven, Vargas had 2 hot weeks then fell off a cliff. There are zero backup OFs I want to hold on to.
