As a Dodgers fan, I was curious what was being posted at Twins sites.   I can vouch for David Vassegh's report that the teams had exchanged names and it was in the Twins ball court to make a decision on moving forward.  Something to keep in mind is that the Dodgers will have to re-shuffle the 40 man when Turner signs or any other deals for that matter because the Dodgers are sitting on 40 now and are trying to move guys like McCarthy and Kazmir to free up spots and money.  Also, guys like Farmer and De Jong who were just added to the roster would make for 3rd and 4th guy types.

Dozier is a nice player, but there is now way that Bellinger is going with DeLeon.  The Dodgers want to be near the luxury tax threshold by 2018.  Gonzalez is gone in two years and Bellinger will be his replacement.  I can see a deal centered around Deleon, Calhoun, 3rd player, Farmer.

The 3rd player is more likely to come from someone like DeJong, Oaks, Stewart, Shefield, Sborz type. I hope the Dodgers don't trade Stewart.  He mowed done the Cubs this past year.  The Dodgers are deep at OF and P positions.   I don't see Bellinger, Alvarez, or Buehler going in this deal..  Just my opinion, but I follow the minor league players pretty closely.  I could be wrong about Alvarez or Buehler but feel pretty certain that Bellinger won't go in a Dozier deal.

If i was the twins it would have to be DeLeon and Alvarez to start.  Throw in DeJong, Sheffield or Buehler and we have a deal for sure.  Twins need pitching no "ifs ands or butts."  The question is are the Dodgers really willing to deal.

I just don't see Calhoun as a trade piece that makes any sense for the Twins and if he was the 2nd piece in the deal I'd hope the Twins would pass. I see De Leon and Alvarez with a lesser piece or two as the most likely deal since the value is reasonable and it addresses the Twins needs.

Jorge Polanco.

Okay.  Thank You.  I know Verdugo was mentioned in some deals too, but I didn't think the Twins had a need in the OF.  I've seen Verdugo play against the Kernels.  He's been one of the youngest player in his respective league just like Bellinger.

That's more likely than DeLeon and Bellinger.

Hi Dave,

I modified the title of this topic just so it was clear from the front page that it isn't Twins Daily claiming this, like a breaking story. Then I also modified the first post just so it was clear to those clicking on it that this is your personal source and not TD reporting this. I just thought I had better give you an explanation, in case you were wondering. Good luck on the breaking news!

John

Truly ridiculous.

This was quite obvious and your post was completely unnecessary.

You are doing a fine job at annoying your readers and alienating those who contribute to forums.

The obsessiveness of some moderators here to distinguish themselves from posters, to take over and halt threads because you wanted to start your own, to intervene in discussion and label it argumentative, and to publicly rebuke posters is getting out of hand. And I would point out that I am not one of the people getting into long discussions, or being rebuked, etc.

Can't see the Twins having any interest in Calhoun.

They don't, I can confirm now that Calhoun's name has not been floated.
The chances that he is included is about as great as the chances of Santiago being included....i.e. 1 in 1,000

The website also has a reputation to maintain, as they're quoted on Rotoworld from time to time, etc.

So Dave gets banned if the trade isn't official by tomorrow afternoon, right?  ;)

Just joking. Appreciate the insight and discussion this thread has created even if the trade doesn't happen.

Since you've only been here since last Tuesday I'll go ahead and let you know right now that you're wrong.

I posted it on the forums, not in a blog, I never claimed to be a part of Twinsdaily officially no make no mention of such. It's very obvious I am an INDIVIDUAL poster.

But like I said, it is what it is, I don't think anybody assumed or though this was a "TwinsDaily endorsed official statement" or something. The owners/mods/etc do a great job overall, but in cases like this I think they are taking themselves a bit to seriously/more important then what is reality. At the end of the day it's a baseball blog site....let's keep things in perspective.

Let's move the administration/moderation discussion to the appropriate forum, and keep this thread on task please.

Thanks!

The current task would be destroying the credibility of DW? Let's get on it.

I think we waited a week+ for the Mauer extension to actually be announced. First it was the Twins wouldn't announce it on X day because other news, Y day because it was a holiday and Z day because of voodoo spirits.

I am just kidding of course.  ----> Dave is (sort of) awesome.

That's actually mostly wrong Kirk, it was officially announced 3 days after the date I said it would be. It was still agreed to between the two parties by that date though (though those contracts that big usually get delayed at times because lawyers like to lawyer) but I nailed the years and the dollar amount to a T.

Apologize Kab!! :)

I think the point that most/many are missing is that this thread has provided a vehicle to increase what little interest there is in the Twins. It took me 11 pages to read all the previous posts before I could contribute, and that's a good thing, because interest in the Twins is at the lowest level that I can remember. I hope Dave is right, but if not, it still was fun that people got involved in this discussion.

THAT'S NOT HOW I REMEMBER IT! I REMEMBER DAYS OF AGONY WAITING FOR THE ACTUAL ANNOUNCEMENT! WHY AM I SHOUTING?

I think De Leon + Alvarez + Filler seems the most reasonable.  Bellinger would be nice but I think the plan has to be Sano taking Mauer's spot at first once that era ends, so I doubt they are targeting that enough to be stuck on him.  Alavrez is a blue chip wild card with a ton of ceiling and long ways to go, Alex Meyer-ish?  De Leon is ready and has a solid #3 profile with some upside that could be realized, he reminds me of Scott Baker with his flyball/ control/ k makeup.  For filler there a couple good looking catching prospects and wild card arms down the rankings.

It doesn't bring back the A+ immediate arm that everyone wants, but De Leon offers immediate relief and Alvarez offers a big potential prospect.  I hope the Twins pull the trigger if this is close to the terms, we need future controllable pitching much more than a veteran power second baseman.

Though I prefer Alvarez as well (this org needs high upside pitching big time!)

It should be noted that Bellinger has a hit/power tool upside where his bat would literally play anywhere. Whether that is 1B, DH, RF (even one that rates bad defensively) if he reaches his midpoint (much less his peak) they can find a way to get his bat in the lineup (IMO)

Not to get to off topic, but I think the plan is for Sano to play 3rd for the next 3-4 years anyways. 1B/DH/RF are more or less fairly open in the near future compared to many teams.

Still though, I prefer Alvarez since pitching is always harder to lock down then hitting, especially on this damned team we call the Twins!

I think you are right on point, a spot for Bellinger if could easily be made and hopefully Sano can stick at 3rd (I am very willing to endure some adventures from him there to get that arm there and that bat in the lineup).  Bellinger also seems more locked into LA's plans replacing AGon and I can see the Twins taking a lot less value in the 3/4 spot returns to get Alvarez instead.

So, someone explain to me how an all-star everyday player with power and good defense gets a lower level of prospect (and no extra players) than the number one prospect received from the Red Sox in the Chris Sale trade.   I understand an ace is valuable, but he only plays once every five days.   A guy like Dozier is going to play nearly every day, and is less likely to blow out an elbow or a shoulder..  I'm not saying the Twins won't get decent value for Dozier compared to the White Sox - but I'm worried!!!

Repeat after me...... Pitching, pitching, pitching. There pitching, and then there 8 other guys standing around to see if the pitcher needs help. :)
