DaveW: Dodgers trade for Dozier to be completed within the next 24 hours

I'd worry about this more if Frazier wasn't in line to make twice as much next year with just one year of team control.

I think the Dodgers want Dozier and Turner.   And they may not be able to afford both Turner and Frazier.

What if the White Sox would take the same package for Frazier and Robertson that the Twins would take for Dozier.

Now what would you do?

Now the Dodgers don't have to spend FA sized dollars for Chapman and Turner. Seems cheaper to me.

Hi Dave,

I modified the title of this topic just so it was clear from the front page that it isn't Twins Daily claiming this, like a breaking story. Then I also modified the first post just so it was clear to those clicking on it that this is your personal source and not TD reporting this. I just thought I had better give you an explanation, in case you were wondering. Good luck on the breaking news!

John

I don't think anyone would think that anyways. Not sure how much I like you changing the title, but it is what it is.

Still no other sources even lukewarm on this. I'll maintain skepticism.

If I were a source I think it might be fun to occasionally mess with the traditional media by leaking to some yay-hoo on a fan site instead of the usual outlets. (No disrespect intended, Dave.)

Non taken, like I said originally (that I think was edited out?) I don't claim to be a blogger, journalist or anything of the sort, nor have any desire. I like making money to much ;) and my grammar is that of a 8 year olds anyways.

In my life/career I have made friends with some folks in various front offices at orgs in baseball, football and a tiny bit in hockey.

I was texting this gal or guy over the past few days re: trade talks, I got the news today that it was all but done. I asked if I could post to some other twins fans and I got a chuckle back in return and a "Sure" since there was already a ton of smoke on this anyways. As mentioned it's all about the last piece (4th piece) if it even ends up having a 4th piece.

Stay tuned!

If I were a source I'm pretty sure I would try to NEVER make people look foolish, and so would only tell people what I really believed was going to happen.

But hey, that's just me. (insert smiling, goofy emoji here)

You would hope that's the case with most people here.  I've been talking to some dodgers folks the last couple of hours who supposedly know organization insiders in CA and they seem to think we are absolutely "smoking dope."   So who the heck knows.  Maybe a deal is brewing MAYBE NOT.

I'm with you. I was referring to leaking info I believed to be true to a non-traditional outlet.

Exactly! I suppose I could have hedged it a little and said "by the end of the winter meetings" but I decided to just say what I was told. This person is convinced it's all but a done deal. If they are "wrong"? Meh. I won't hold a grudge, will just stick them with the next bar tab.

I can see the headline on MLBTradeRumors now...

Source from either Twins or Dodgers organization tells regular Twins fanblog poster Spirit of Spirit of Vodka Dave that Dozier trade is almost done; sticking point is 25th-ranked Dodger prospect.

DaveW, I believe that is what you heard, and I believe that is what your source thinks. But there are some holes in the story. I think the skepticism is warranted. But fun rumor, and I would certainly like the return you outline. (But would like Barnes as the third piece back, as I have been saying since the trade deadline.)

Well if they're looking at 3rd or 4th pieces I wouldn't mind seeing the Twins go for Ronny Brito. He was one of their big money signings a last year out of the Dominican. SS who is good defensively. Hasn't made it to the U.S. yet.

He is a looooooong way away yet but if you're taking a flier, and anything that is the 4th player in a trade is a flier, might as well take a chance on a guy at a premium position with defensive skills.

Let's play a game with this. What would the analogy be to De Leon / Bellinger / 2 X 20-25 guys in the Twins system?

Berrios, Gordon, Lewin Diaz and F Jorge?

Or would Kepler match up with Bellinger better?

Yes ;)

I'm in favor of a Dozier trade, but what I'm looking forward to most are the scorching takes on Star Tribune and other sites on whatever we get back. I was just talking to a diehard White Sox fan who is PISSED about the Sale and Eaton trades. Most fans don't understand stars-for-prospects trades...

I prefer De Leon, Alvarez ++ over De Leon, Bellinger ++.  However, I can see why the Twins might be scoff a bit at the second version of the deal.  Need more pitching for this to work.

I'll bet the Twins are holding out for De Leon, Bellinger and Alvarez.  Which is probably why the deal hasn't gone down yet.

Unless Dave is correct, then it will all be back to the way it was. Sadly we will all wait and see.

To be fair, I they have a right to be upset a bit. Pretty bad the way they have wasted the cheap primes of some very good players, even if this is the best way to salvage something going forward.

Can you imagine how brokenhearted all of the lonely housewives will be when this comes to fruition? They'll be inconsolable. But just think how Brian's smile, hair and aw shucks attitude will play in La La Land. Wow.

But seriously, I'll be happy either way - if he nets good prospects or sticks around and contributes ... so long as early season Brian doesn't stick around long.

De Leon and Bellinger would automatically be our number 1 and 2 prospects if rumors are true.

That would be great and sad at the same time. Just shows how poorly the Twins have drafted with such high draft picks for so many years lately. I am not calling all 1st round picks the Twins drafted busts.

As a Dodgers fan, I was curious what was being posted at Twins sites.   I can vouch for David Vassegh's report that the teams had exchanged names and it was in the Twins ball court to make a decision on moving forward.  Something to keep in mind is that the Dodgers will have to re-shuffle the 40 man when Turner signs or any other deals for that matter because the Dodgers are sitting on 40 now and are trying to move guys like McCarthy and Kazmir to free up spots and money.  Also, guys like Farmer and De Jong who were just added to the roster would make for 3rd and 4th guy types.

Dozier is a nice player, but there is now way that Bellinger is going with DeLeon.  The Dodgers want to be near the luxury tax threshold by 2018.  Gonzalez is gone in two years and Bellinger will be his replacement.  I can see a deal centered around Deleon, Calhoun, 3rd player, Farmer.

The 3rd player is more likely to come from someone like DeJong, Oaks, Stewart, Shefield, Sborz type. I hope the Dodgers don't trade Stewart.  He mowed done the Cubs this past year.  The Dodgers are deep at OF and P positions.   I don't see Bellinger, Alvarez, or Buehler going in this deal..  Just my opinion, but I follow the minor league players pretty closely.  I could be wrong about Alvarez or Buehler but feel pretty certain that Bellinger won't go in a Dozier deal.
