DaveW: Dodgers trade for Dozier to be completed within the next 24 hours

It would be unlikely, my source is convinced that Dodgers are the only "Real" players here.

If that is the case that doesn't give us much leverage. Need at least 2 real bidders to get maximum return. Maybe the Twins are checking with other teams to try and leverage this offer

SO at this point if the trade happens is DaveW correct on calling the trade because he called the trade a done deal or is it a fail on his part for saying it was going to be within 24 hours almost 48 hours ago?

Just an aside, but has it ever been discussed if Dozier could play left field? I have seen third-base floating around, but I have not read about the outfield at all. I mean, he does have good speed.

He doesn't have the arm for 3B or LF IMO.

I say it's a good call.  It only matters if the actual trade happens with the players mentioned, IMO.

I vote correct, and major kudos, if it happens at all. It could just be that players have been agreed upon, but the Dodgers need to figure out Justin Turner and his situation first.

I am late to the party (story of my life) so let me first say great thread – lots of fun, both on topic and off - and I support the posting of rumors

My only concern is that IF this deal does not happen as reported above, it will become “internet fact” that the Dodgers offered DeLeon, Bellinger or Alvarez, plus and the front office either declined or preferred some other package (e.g. DeLeon, Stewart, plus, plus)

There are enough real reasons to criticize the organization without adding unsubstantiated ones to the list

And I keep refreshing . . .

So kinda like all those bad Johan Santana rumors:

Red Sox offer Lester, Crisp, Masterson, Lowrie and Bowden. Twins want Ellsbury.

Yankees offer Hughes, Cabrera, and two other prospects, but Twins want Kennedy.

True or not True!

Even that the Twins wanted Pelfrey and Fernando Martinez but settled for Humber and Gomez and those other two guys.

We forget that this stuff becomes FACT on the internet at some point!

I think we decided that we are going to extend the deadline to the end of today. But I don't really remember. A lot of interesting things have happened in this thread over the last couple of days

One question I have; if the Twins get Bellinger in the deal, where do you see him playing this year?

1) AAA 1st baseman/OF

2) MLB 1st baseman/OF, Mauer to DH against righties and Vargas to DH against lefties

3) Other, and if so, what is that other

THIS year? Split with 1B and DH with Mauer starting mid season (after team finally gives up on Vargas).  Next year, probably full time 1B, Mauer splitting DH with Sano and us working in another 3B.

Year after, Mauer is gone, Bellinger earns an All Star trip and Sano goes to DH.

I like that, I just don't think Bellinger should DH all that often, especially as a 21 for most of the year. Having Mauer as the primary DH (against righties) absolutely will keep him healthier as well. And Vargas (or Grossman) really do hit lefties well, and could be the DH against lefties.

But Bellinger, he should probably play a defensive position of some kind, and face everyone until/if he really struggles or a platoon should be created for him against lefties.

I adjusted it (expounded really). read again :-)

And I never suggested platooning as far as batting.  He comes up mid season next year and is a constant in the lineup.

When I've seen dodgers fans talk about him they say RF until A-Gon is gone. So RF here and move Kepler to LF, which is where he prefers to play.

Yeah that sounds like a good plan. If he is a Twin, that is.

Do you think De Leon would be in the rotation day 1?

Would Yadier Alvarez start in Fort Myers?

Tell them Plouffe is still available! I'm half joking, but Dozier+ signing Plouffe would replace Turner's production and would be cheaper. Plus the Dodgers would be Twins West.

I am sure it is going to hard for Plouffe to get more than $5-7M on a 1 year deal with the lack of teams needing a 3rd baseman. So why not take a 1 year deal with a contending team and hope to rebuild his value.

De Leon should be in the the rotation NLT July.

And yes, I'd put Alvarez at Ft Myers.

Ken Rosenthal was on MLB Network this morning and referenced that there are some teams that are very good about keeping deals quiet until it actually happens. Specifically he was referring to the Cardinals and then the Rockies with Ian Desmond. I would assume based on past history that the Twins are one of these teams? Beat writers for the Twins have also noted that all it takes is one call and everything changes. Who knows, maybe this will come out of left field to the National Media if it does happen.
