That is good news.  Do you have the details of the trade?  Who are the 2 Dodger Centerpieces.  And are the Twins still only sending Dozier and possibly a low level minor league filler?

Only Dozier.

Centerpieces are DeLeon and one of Alavrez or Billinger

That's probably a pretty fair deal. I know people were hating on him, but I'd do De Leon, Stewart, and Calhoun. Then if the Twins got creative, they could package E. Santana and Calhoun to the Mariners, O's, Pirates, or some other near contending team that's looking for a reliable #3 starter. 

 

I don't love Calhoun simply because he probably can't play above average defense anywhere. But he can hit, and he would be an asset as a player/prospect.

Trade is still "very close" and could be completed at literally any moment.

Also, I need a trade to happen.  It will be a nice distraction from my real job, which is working in finance for a health insurance provider.

I really could see a Turner deal holding this deal up.  If the Dodgers don't sign Turner they will need to turn around and trade for a 3rd baseman as well as a 2nd baseman.  They only have so many assets to trade and if they give a portion of them to the Twins they may not be able to get a Turner replacement.  Once the pieces of that fall in place hopefully it will get things rolling.

 

Tell them Plouffe is still available! I'm half joking, but Dozier+ signing Plouffe would replace Turner's production and would be cheaper. Plus the Dodgers would be Twins West.

Is De Leon, Alvarez and Lux realistic? Or do the Dodgers value Alvarez more than Bellinger? Or is Lux off the table as a 3rd piece?

Lux won't be the third piece.

Also, I don't think the Twins should pigeon-hole themselves in HAVING to get pitching in any trade.

In general I don't disagree with that view, but in this instance I do. Dozier is our best trade chip in a long while. You need to get up-the-middle talent in return. That is what is always scarce.

 

CF, we have covered, we hope. SS, I doubt a team trades a top notch one to get a 2B - they might put him (or their current SS) at 2B themselves if it came to that. Catcher, I am no longer high on investing deeply at that position after having had the experience we've had with Mauer - I've posted elsewhere on that and won't take the time/space here.

 

That leaves starting pitching as the centerpiece.

Yes, 3rd for sure, possibly 4th. Dodgers trying to dump some non upside AAAA type for that piece, Tins want at least one lottery ticket type (pitcher)

I don't love him either. But as 3rd piece that we could possibly turn around in a package, I think that'll do.

I don't envy you. I work on the other end at financial advisory firm that sells health insurance and medicare supplements in addition to regular financial planning. MNSure is an absolute clusterf***.

So it could be De Leon, Bellinger, AAAA pitcher (I'm not against it, especially since their AAAA guy may be better than Hector Santiago or Kyle Gibson) and a lottery ticket?

When I was a teenager my dad knew a guy at work who knew a guy who worked for the Twins. We were tipped off early that Billy Gardner was going to be replaced by Ray Miller. I remember telling my buddies at school before it even hit the papers. Man, I wish there was Twins Daily in 1985.

I can't believe this deal isn't happening. I mean, six players for Dozier!? Who would've thunk. 36 pages of responses and no deal in place. Rumors are fun, but not this much fun.

 

Say, did you hear that a Danny Santana trade is going down in the next 24 hours! Or maybe it was a Santana from some other team. Gotta check out my source again!

I am late to the party (story of my life) so let me first say great thread – lots of fun, both on topic and off - and I support the posting of rumors

 

My only concern is that IF this deal does not happen as reported above, it will become “internet fact” that the Dodgers offered DeLeon, Bellinger or Alvarez, plus and the front office either declined or preferred some other package (e.g. DeLeon, Stewart, plus, plus)

 

There are enough real reasons to criticize the organization without adding unsubstantiated ones to the list

 

And I keep refreshing . . .

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, but it is a mesmerizing gif. 

It's the opposite of a perpetual-motion machine. You apply energy, it runs a little while and then turns itself off.
