POTUS Donald Trump

Also, Ted Cruz voted against Hurricane Sandy relief, and I'm sure his base loved it.

I wonder how he'll vote when it comes to Harvey relief, and how his base feels now that they are the ones devastated and in need of federal relief?

The popular response was it was filled with pork that had nothing to do with the recovery. However, that has been shown to be false time and time again. Why don't people see liars for who they are?

They probably would but the liars further lie and say they aren't liars. Alas, there's no way to check what they say so we must just all take them at their words.

The representative of the Houston area was on CNN today. When asked why he voted against Sandy he gave the same response. The reporter should have had a response ready and pushed back. The problem will be these people will just avoid CNN even more and CNN will be left with only a handful of people willing to come on the show. That in of itself is a tragedy.

Because demonizing, and delegitimatizing the media to an extent never seen before, is and was one of the masterstrokes of the far right over the past 20 years, and executed "hugely" by the Trump campaign.  Just ignore the truth, call it fake, and blame "the media."  Get your own "media" to publish something else.

It's brilliant, really.

Agree, but in my opinion the CNNs of the world deserve every drop of contempt that comes their way.

The best that can be said for many of the top media managers and personalities is that they are shallow individuals who fail to put into practice what they were taught in journalism school.

I'm not sure it's really anything new, if we can equate the government delegitimatizing with banning the freepress, and using state-run press to spread propaganda.  It's textbook fascism, no?

In any case, I think Foxnews and Clear Channel radio, etc., certainly paved the way for Trump et al.'s message.

Really good article in Slate arguing that the government might be violating the constitution if they use DACA personal information to find and deport them.

"Had DACA never existed, the government would have had to do gumshoe detective work to identify and apprehend DACA beneficiaries. It shouldn’t be spared that burden by virtue of having tricked those same immigrants with false promises of relief. To allow the government to perform such a bait and switch would be an outrageous form of entrapment that the Due Process Clause should prevent. "

That was the first thing I thought of when the asshat-in-chief was making that decision. I knew that argument was coming.  Unfortunately, not sure the genie can be put back in the bottle.

Handing us the fake news narrative was the death blow to Hillary Clinton.  Calling out bias has never worked until now.  Part of it is Trumps ability to control the direction of media cheap shots but part of it is the Democrats no longer know what issues people care about.  The majority of the left is so worried about sounding like they care that they act like they care about issues they barley care about.  Think about it you really don't care about minimum wage and global warming as much as you like to get angry at Republicans for being "wrong" on those issues.  That kind of politics might be fun, but it doesn't work on election day.

If America had an actual brain on its shoulders, approximately 20 million people would care about global warming after it helped wipe out a large part of the southern United States over the past few weeks.

Great timing on this post, by the way.

I care about climate change too, but what does a vote for a Dem do here other than affirm the position that it exists.

One of the reasons that nothing has really happened is that no one has really laid out the cost of actually addressing it. And for good reason, because it would require a massive change in behavior. Or a massive influx of R and D on alternative energy, which is going to cost a ton in taxes and tax credits and breaking the power of fossil fuel producers. (Which, coincidentally, is where the debate should be happening, not on the actual existence).

I'd put climate change at or near the the top of the things I care about, frankly, for example.

Yep ... I've said this for years ... if we don't have a planet to live on, nothing else matters. And, frankly, I don't know why that's not at the top of everyone's list. But, to each his/her own.

Exactly it's like being against cancer.  By the way thanks to better technology we are finding more and more cancer, and we all know the causes of cancer are man made.

Are you sure? Some are no doubt, but you think cancer didn't exist before we started making a bunch of cool ****? Not really related to potus, just curious.

Exactly. They've identified "tumor" growths on frozen prehistoric humanoids that were discovered. I would imagine that cancerous cell growth resulted from all kinds of adverse environmental things that sometimes occurred to the planet and sometimes were inflicted upon the planet.

Yeah... There are loads of "natural" things that can cause cancer.

You know, like THE SUN.
