POTUS Donald Trump

Scalia died almost a year ago.  I know this is 20-20 hindsight, and they probably figured it was not as important because they thought Hilary would win, but I really wish they would have done more to force the issue of Obama appointing someone.  He had 11 months in office after Scalia died.

I know McConnell was refusing to do anything, but it seems like that it was accepted a little too easily.  Again, probably because they thought it would not matter because Hilary would appoint someone, but did not exactly work out well.

I thought it should be the issue for endangered Republican incumbents, but it really didn't hit home with the undecided I guess. As someone who likely was going to vote blue, I thought this was the biggest outrage of the outrageous behavior of Republicans in Congress, but it seemed to motivate the Republican base most of all.

I don't usually do this but I think the media soft-peddled this and several other instances of obstruction by sitting Republicans. I would think it should have been featured repeatedly that a perfectly moderate Supreme Court choice was not even given the opportunity for a hearing because.....Republicans viewed that Supreme Court as theirs.

I still cannot believe he made Black History month about how the media is mean to him...

I can't remember, did we discuss this one? It's really embarrassing but it's one of my state legislatures who made national news:

http://www.meanread.com/2017/01/18/fargo-legislator-gives-mlk-day-speech-praising-confederate-soldiers-Reagan/

It's all really bad, he doesn't really talk about MLK in his MLK speech, just about Ronald Reagan and Confederate soldiers, but his last line really sums it up in so many ways:

“I just wanted to relate back to why it happened and the man who had the courage enough to say we’re going to make it a legal holiday. And I think he did the right thing.”

Yes, MLK Day should really be about Ronald Reagan.

Now Donald Trump is tearing into the Australian PM.

'It should have been one of the most congenial calls for the new commander in chief — a conversation with the leader of Australia, one of America’s staunchest allies, at the end of a triumphant week.

Instead, President Trump blasted Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over a refugee agreement and boasted about the magnitude of his electoral college win, according to senior U.S. officials briefed on the Saturday exchange. Then, 25 minutes into what was expected to be an hour-long call, Trump abruptly ended it.

At one point Trump informed Turnbull that he had spoken with four other world leaders that day — including Russian President Vladimir Putin — and that, “This was the worst call by far.

This is the worst deal ever,” Trump fumed as Turnbull attempted to confirm that the United States would honor its pledge to take in 1,250 refugees from an Australian detention center. Trump, who one day earlier had signed an executive order temporarily barring the admissions of refugees, complained that he was “going to get killed” politically and accused Australia of seeking to export the “next Boston bombers.”

Are we going to be able to salvage and re-strengthen any of these ties to our allies when he's gone?

Wow. Turnbull was a big supporter of his coming into this call. He applauded some of the nationalist ideals trump represented. The damage from W was finally overcome I think. Now this.... this is going to be a whole new level of damage.

In addition to the Australian call there was some talk that he talked about troops to Mexico to get the bad hombres in his call to their President, although now I am hearing that might be false.  It is sad you can't tell what is satire and what is real for him.

Regardless, I am beginning to think diplomacy might not be one of his top strengths.

I can't believe I feel actual hate towards Donald Trump, but I do.  The amount of people I have ever hated I can count on one hand and have fingers left.

We HAVE to get the Democrats the majority in the House and Senate in 2018 and then block everything this jackhole wants to do.

Yet it's the Democrats who have been handing more and more power over to the fringe right year after year. Democrats carry a lot of blame for this mess. The Democrats need leadership that doesn't fold whenever a Republican lies.

Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!

And this does no concern me at all - diplomacy in action.

I'm just happy that the first nuke that hits the US and A will hit nyc, and while it will be a really crappy 3 seconds, I and my loved ones here will be dust, meanwhile the rest of you can deal with the zombies, fallout and emperor trump leading the world to its inevitable demise :)

His stupidity is stunning. And very worrisome.

I thought about adding that I hoped my post didn't look bad in retrospect, in a few months.

I think it gets worse.

I see protest and opposition only getting stronger and more resilient. I think the strategy of response would have been a "law and order" crackdown, but that isn't tenable when the protesters are nonviolent middle class white people.

War against an enemy, real or imagined, is the last chance to hold together support in the face of oppostion. The Supreme Court nominee "bump" will only last so long.

At the National Prayer Breakfast this morning he talked about how great he was for the Apprentice and gave a dig at Arnold for the lower ratings.   He lives the WWJD with his every action and statement.

Will be interesting to see how the Yemen aftermath develops.  Sounds like the military is not happy with him.

Compare and contrast with this appearance by a president at the prayer breakfast.

He can be a gifted comic speaker, but at this venue it's hard to find any wisecracks from him, and certainly none at someone else's expense. He stays on-topic.

It is utterly beyond me that Republican religious voters don't ever slap their foreheads and say, damn, I voted for the wrong guy again.

Stupid arrogant SOB.

I imagine the Benghazi committee will get right on this needless loss of life.

/ I'm not actually in favor of second guessing this operation, which I am confident was put forward in good faith by mostly the same military team that advised Obama until the end. The Bin Laden operation came within a whisker of a negative outcome, after all, not that any two operations are totally alike. Edit: I see that Mike ninja'ed me on this POV.

Well if there's one thing that Trump's supporters are beholden to more than anything, it's probably supporting the military. I wouldn't want our troops to be put in unduly risky situations and I wouldn't want civilian casualties, but if military officials start telling the public that Trump isn't qualified and he's putting the lives of our troops in danger needlessly, that's about the biggest denouncement that he could possibly get.

Oh, yeah the military is important to most of his followers, but I did forget about religion, maybe that's equally as important. So as long as he doesn't blasphemously anger folks with that stuff.

--Trump said with a laugh, "I want to just pray for Arnold if we can -- for those ratings."--

Pretty sure Jesus wasn't bragging all the time.....

I remember when he tweeted the beatitudes and he was NOT for banning Samaritans from entering Jerusalem.   I am not sure if he himself ever talked about his crowd for the Sermon on the Mount being "Huge" and insisted that he pulled in a larger audience than John the Baptist.

Arnold has offered to switch jobs with Trump. I can't believe how incredibly attracted I am to a Schwarzenegger presidency at the moment.

I would support the Constitutional Amendment to make this possible. :)

Despite claims of large crowds in attendance at his rallies, scattered reports have come in that two fishes and five loaves of bread were sufficient to feed the entire gathering of folks at one of them.
