POTUS Donald Trump

We flew without issue Sunday. But our Lyft driver said his boss at the TSA already lost his house. The GOPs lack of empathy is astounding to me.

This tactic (and the subsequent "national emergency" one) is completely against the ideas of our republic.  For a party that claims to be so beholden to the Constitution, they sure don't seem to mind wiping their rear ends with it for political convenience.

Demonstrating that life can go on with no government as a justification to scale back government has always been part of the tactic.

It's not entirely wrong (we certainly can do some trimming), but it's seriously misguided in nature.

Great being with the National Champion Clemson Tigers last night at the White House. Because of the Shutdown I served them massive amounts of Fast Food (I paid), over 1000 hamberders etc. Within one hour, it was all gone. Great guys and big eaters!

This tweet shows that he cannot resist about bragging about anything (and here he is bragging about buying fast food even though he himself owns a hotel nearby where he could have upped it a level), and that he has to lie about anything (even if there were 50 people in attendance - for 1000 burgers to be gone, it would mean each person had 20 burgers), and he really does not believe in proof-reading.

1000 burgers wouldn't fit on that table. Maybe it is actually 100 and he mistyped..

The thing is that unless the school pays for the transportation to such a dinner, the team could be in violation for taking such an offer.

Seriously, though, I have had a chance through connections with a few players on the team to find out that multiple Clemson players had to borrow money in order to rent suits and/or tuxes for the occasion due to their size making borrowing a typical "suit from a friend's dad" option not a possibility. The team is incensed that they were then served fast food. Cold fast food. With the President not even staying to speak with the team and eat with them.

While I can't directly name the source of the quote, the best line back to me was this one:

"You get why the Warriors and other teams didn't want to bother with the visit to the White House. Guys talk about their family members getting to sit down with other Presidents and talk ball over dinner. He didn't even stay long enough to let the whole team get into the room where the food was before he left."

Thanks for sharing.  Damning.

Ouch. And these are essentially kids riding high on a victory, getting to meet the President of the United States.

No offense, I'm going to have to research this more but I cannot believe Obama did that kind of thing (despite him being basically the anti-Christ, while simultaneously being one of the most dignified men I've ever seen).

I tried to find it a picture of it and couldn't, but one player mentioned that at their last White House visit, Obama was on his way out of office in January of 2017, and they ate in a White House dining room set up in small tables so Obama could move from table to table talking with players, and this player wouldn't "testify in court to it", but he was pretty sure Obama hit every single table in the room during the multi-course meal.

From a sports reporter in DC, he mentioned that one of the guys who really did up WH visits was Dubya, which echoed his father, who really made the visit a "thing" for any champion, not just professional sports.

I believe that. Dubya is a big sports fan so it'd make sense that he particularly enjoyed that part of the presidency.

Yup, have to give her credit.  She's been getting a lot of crap thrown at her (from her own side) but she held firm and didn't let him off the hook.

And the best possible thing happened - Trump caved for all of his base to see.  He folded like a cheap tent.  He's going to get so much flak from his base it's going to be hilarious.

Trump thought he'd be able to effectively blame the Democrats, he was wrong. Someone has to be feeding him some bad advice if he immediately caved after McConnell told him they were losing.

Democrats should compromise. It makes sense to build the wall in some areas, and makes way more sense to fund other strategies that will help way more. Also, pay for it by fining the snot out of companies that employ illegals.

Yep,I have to eat some crow regarding Pelosi.

I thought it was time for the Democrats to move on to younger leadership, and that may or may not still be the case. But Pelosi played Trump like a fiddle through this whole process.

To use Trump's terms: Very impressed!

Me too. I initially wanted new blood.  But I clearly underestimated her political resolve.

I think he was motivated because a series of recent polls came out, where his favorability fell below 35 in some instances.
