This is trouble for Trump. He obviously was working on business deals, then lied about it. The big question is whether or not the attack on our democracy was a coordinated effort. I think that is going to be hard to prove, but Nixon was implicated for less than what they have on Trump.

The problem with doing business in Russia, with people connected to Putin, is the timing. Putin doesn't do favors out of the goodness of his heart.

A big piece of the coordination has been revealed; we now have more evidence of motive for quid-pro-quo what with the business deals along with the election, sanctions, etc.

For instance, if there's proof that Trump was getting a beneficial business deal, say, in exchange for changing the Republican platform becoming pro-Russia at their convention; proof about the election, while super important, won't be necessary to convict for violation of federal election laws.

Trump has been so mature, calm and measured lately, you would have never known that something like this was about to come down.   He has an excellent poker face.

He has now cancelled his one on one meeting with Putin giving the latest Ukraine incident as the reason, but you have to wonder if he just does not want a bad review.

Sentence doesn't start until March... If he starts fully cooperating I wonder if they'll cut it down. Sounds like he's only been confirming thus far.

There's two different prosecutions at work, the SDNY and Mueller; he's cooperated with Mueller, but evidently, not so much with SDNY b/c he's unwilling to implicate friends and family in whatever tax evasion schemes/frauds he may know about.   My sense is that this is the sentence he'll serve (with possibility of early release).

Just the mess that is our politics. Something good happens, then Washington has to over compensate and intentionally throws **** at the fan.

Ah,, I thought it was specific to the reform....yes, well, it is somehow worse than I predicted, and I think I was the biggest naysayer on these forums. It is staggering, really.

At this point there is zero incentive for Democrats to negotiate over the shutdown.

In 2 weeks they'll be in control of the house.

Consider it payback for stalling on the SCOTUS nomination. They should just come out and announce that.

Pushing for funding of a 5 billion dollar wall when you know it won't make any difference.... Republicans should just tell they can't get that much money, and use the amount they can get. Have they even used the first amount that was secured?

Trump told a 7 year old caller that believing in Santa at 7 is "marginal".

I assumed it was going to take me to an SNL skit when I clicked the headline in my notification bar, but nope, it's real.

What is the matter with this man?

Yeah, one of my family mentioned this news at breakfast, and it sounded like one of those too-rich-to-be-true posts I see on Facebook where my first step is to check Snopes.com. Instead, I suggested checking Fox News, and if it's there, then I guess it really happened. Turns out I have some use for Fox News after all! :)

Just add taking away a child’s innocence to his long list of horribleness. But then what does one expect from soulless evil?

Trump thinks the border wall is worth shutting the government down. I hope he keeps it up, democrats have no reason to give in politically or sensibly. It is dumb policy, and republicans would be smart to put forth a bipartisan plan Trump can't refuse.

For better or worse, border security was one of Trump's promises to his fan base on the campaign trail... So shutting down the government probably is worth it to him.

Also, weren't Democrats crying wolf when the Republicans did the exact same thing (refusing to negotiate with the other party) while Obama was in office? What happened to working across the aisle? Or does that only apply for either party when their person holds power? It's all petty and sad.

They already compromised on almost 2 billion. Seriously, that money won't get spent in the next 5 years working on that wall and increases in border security. How much do the democrats have to give? Why should they? This is about spending billions of dollars in tax payer money for nothing. This does not help our country.

The argument isn't the same. If all republicans have is whataboutism, they are going to lose ever single educated voter. Stop the madness and just do your job and make good policy. Start acting as a branch of government, not 2 bickering brothers.

This is not at all the same thing. Not at all. This isn’t the Democrats playing games. This is them doing what’s right and not giving in to ****ing stupidity. This is all Trump and the Republicans. Spending on a border wall is NOT something I want my Reps to back down on. It’s stupid, senseless spending.

I don't disagree, but again, many people around the country voted for this guy because of the wall. It was his primary promise on the campaign trail.

Yeah, many did, but more didn’t vote for him.

And, what Pseudo said. Trump said Mexico would pay for it.

Third, the two examples are still not the same. I agree that Dems and Repubs should be working together to find solutions the the problems in this country ... health care being a big one ... but not spending billions on building a ****ing wall that will do nothing but be a wall. That is not something I want my representatives to reach across the aisle to compromise on ... I want them to reach across the aisle to ****ing kill it because it deserves to be killed.

I don't want to get into this debate of popular vote vs. electoral votes. I didn't vote for Trump full disclosure. I'm just pointing out that the wall was his big promise on the campaign trail, and it makes sense why this is a sticking point to him to shut down the government.

Because what else can he say at this point that he's fulfilled with his campaign promises? Not much.

Regardless, we're going to see a gridlock for the next 2 years, nothing will get accomplished, then the same **** will happen in reverse.

Trump promised Mexico would pay for the wall. That he's now shutting down the government to pay for it shows how much he's jumped the shark. There is no mandate for his action.

If I heard correctly, the Democrats would rather just give Mexico the money instead of Trump himself. Which is also really stupid, because Mexico is one of the most corrupt countries out there.
