I sometimes posted on the ESPN boards, but mostly lurked. Being a lone island in a sea of White Sox fans I needed a Twins community and that was it. I jumped to BYTO when it was formed. Being older and female it wasn't exactly my environment but I still enjoyed it. You guys were all certainly entertaining and it was fun watching you all grow up. <snick>

Oh man, I totally forgot about Hawk, you guys had the longest running thread on BYTO I believe.

It's a shame Brock deleted the BYTO Facebook page, I may need to make one in the near future, every few weeks I can dig up a classic thread, post or such and post it to the page or something.

Oh, I also don't begrudge it, I wish both types of places existed, so I could go to the one that I felt that day.....not sure I'd really fit in most days on BYTO, but I have been working on lightening up some....

I certainly don't think that kind of site is right for everyone, potentially me included...

Wow. Wish I had known about byto. Sounds a bit more fun....

It was a lot of fun. It was also rather intimidating as they weren't always very welcoming to someone new.  After I found the site I just read and laughed, took me a while to make an account and then several months before I screwed up the courage to post. Still got roasted.

The others are right, when it comes to content, nothing comes close to this site. Though, I most definitely miss the irreverence that went on at BYTO.

Pop quiz...what would you say to a poster who hated Mauer so much that he kept propping up Eric Munson as a better option. He's going to hit 40 HRs we were told over and over.

On that site? I'd probably use strong NSFW language to call him an idiot, and to point out that you can hate Mauer for a lot of reasons, none of which were his inability to hit....

edit: Oh, and I hope that is you, so you just got my message :)

You would have been fine. But yeah, it wasn't a site for everyone and they weren't very nice to 'newcomers.' I think they left me alone mostly because, well, I was an 'old lady' and because, well, I didn't really care, and I didn't participate all that heavily except for the 'For Better or For Worse' thread that was set up for me and Hawkiconk. Heh.

There was real content too. We didn't just screw around and make fun of people all the time. A lot of smart baseball discussions happened with snark. It was a good time, and the reason it ended was the beginning of twins daily. It was fun while it lasted.

http://www.ladylike.hr/upload_data/site_photos/big1_4105815881031864942158179347_images.jpeg

"I demand a hard drive, with five MEGA bytes of total storage, or the whole world goes byyyye... byyyye... in exactly..." (whispers) "what?" "Excuse me, generals. I meant to say, five GIGA bytes..." (whispers) "wait, seriously???" "I'm sorry, give me a moment while my associates... uh, five TERA by-...?" (whispers) "oh, give me a break, ssshhhh, they have those at frickin' Best Buy now?" "What about... five peta... bytes?... Peta? That would be what's extraordinarily expensive to acquire? Good. Yes, definitely. I want a hard drive with five PETA bytes. Mua ha ha ha ha ha hah!!!"

5GB is a *very* large database, actually... Well, for our kind of use, anyway.

It was 5GB of pure spam data, which is kind of extraordinary.

The number just sounded funny as any kind of obstacle to tucking it away somewhere for the benefit of future historians.

BYTO sounds like it was a lot of fun... Back when that was running I was in the teenage sports sports sports my whole life was just sports phase... Some of us probably would have really butted heads talking about Jason Tyner.

Now sports are just entertainment, and my takes aren't nearly as SCORCHING hot anymore.

We were hip to analytics before it was cool.

Today it's funny but nine years ago, it was quite a pain to manage, particularly when trying to extract from shared server space.

BYTO used to be hosted on GoDaddy of all places. What a **** show.

Didn't you get your own word filter for a while? Nostradumbass I think.

No that was my title (under my name) I got filtered to statfreak101 during one of our epic arguments.

BYTO sounds like it would have been a blast, wish I would have found it when it was around but GCTF had the only Internet connection in town back then.

Would have been fun.

If I could find the picture of Canada City city hall you'd understand why we could only go one at a time.

Forgot to mention the dictator ranking system. I think I was at Stalin when it was closed down, or maybe Ariel. I think you started at Khmer Rouge and worked your way up.

I had one ranking the whole way through ... Imelda Marcos with the tag line 'Need more shoes!'

I'm not sure whose humor that was ... Brock's or Kobs' but it was funny.

Who wrote that? How, i mean, why do they think i like big women? I remember verve and his wife....

Does anyone remember posting on the espn boards? I don't think moderators even existed then. When did those boards die? It's too bad nobody on this site knows what sluts rule means. Those were the days.... wild and free. Posting while high and drunk in college, introducing noobs to sabermetrics, debating the validity of how clutch Derek Jeter actually is (didn't we have a filter for him?), and if course... watching playoff games.

There were moderators. I was one with ESPN.
