Pat Reusse's Turkey of the Year 2016

Our family had a couple of Thanksgiving traditions.... Going over to Grandma's house for a large feast, watching football, taking a nap on the couch, and reading Reusse's Turkey of the Year in the paper.

This year I believe it will be Terry Ryan who will win the coveted award... Are there others that come to mind that would make the Turkey of the Year list?

I opened this thinking that you already had the answer. Ryan was the first person who came to my mind.

Giving it more thought though, my money is on Norwood Teague by a hair over Ryan simply because taking part in and looking the other way on unwanted sexual misbehavior is a more damning offense than putting a bad baseball team on the field.

Wasn't he fired in 2015? Otherwise...yeah.

Although, more of a douchenozzle than merely a turkey.

Forgot about Norwood. Another good choice.

You are a year late on Norwood, that stuff was 2015 and he was runner up last year.

My guesses:

Blair Walsh

Terry Ryan

Chuck Fletcher

Here are the previous winners:

12- Tubby Smith

11- Zygi Wilfred

10- Brett Favre

09- Tim Brewster

08- Marion Gaborone

My mistake.

Looking at that list makes one realize Reusse seems to juggle between being spot-on and being outright petty with his yearly selections. Which I guess pretty much sums up his entire journalistic career too.

That Hrbek only won one of them is the upset here.

Who is it? Can't view...reached my monthly free limit.

University of Minnesota Men's Athletics. First runner up was Paul Molitor.

Since the spirit of this annual article is to rip and poke fun at bad sports teams, I'd rather go after professional athletes than college athletes.

I know in desktop Chrome, there is even an extension you can install that will force selected sites to open incognito by default, so you don't even have to remember to do it. I think this is the one:

Richard Pitino would have been the choice, you know it is going to be someone at the U if there is an option giving Pat's background.  Going after the football team is a joke.  They had the 2nd hardest schedule in the country and a won their bowl game.  The team has won 8 games again this year and is in better place.  But Fat Pat had to take a swipe, probably because of his own personal failures at the U and his being 100% wrong about Kill.  It is comical that he can't admit being wrong.

In a society that is so against anti bullying everywhere, I'm amazed Minnesota sports fan love two of the biggest bullies, Pat and Barreiro.  Neither has an original thought, neither can defend a position when confronted, neither is insightful or entertaining.  I unfortunately have met both in person, the "personality" is not an act, both are 100% dbags in person.  Mrs. Barreiro on the other hand is a nice woman, talk about opposites.

Why are you bringing up last year's results for the football team? This is an award for 2016.

8 wins with a cupcake schedule, that is great if you are happy with mediocrity.

The schedule will never be easier than it was this year, so if you are happy with this being the best we'll ever be, then that is fair. Some of us would like to see them take the next step and compete for the West every few years.

Jerry Kill? The same Kill that left us with no other option at QB than the awful Mitch Leidner?

The Gophers are undefeated going into Wisconsin with even average QB play. That is on Kill.

And fwiw, I'm with you on Reusse. My last straw with him was hearing him on his radio show taking about how disgusted he was seeing a woman breastfeeding at a baseball game, topping it off saying, "she wasn't even good looking!"

You are right, he's not much of a human being.

I've been going to Gopher games since 1988.  I would like to think the Gophers are building a program where 8 wins is expected and on occasional they will win the west.  In other words, doing what Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisconsin are doing.  Even after today's loss, they have won 8 games 3 of 4 seasons, something that hasn't been done in 100 years.  This is not the same old Gophers...Cupcake schedule?  They lost at a top 10 Wisconsin team today that they were outplaying for three quarters.  They lost at a top 10 PSU team in overtime by 3.  They lost at a top 20 Nebraska team by 7 and were a the Nebraska 15 yard line late.

This staff clearly has missed at QB, but overall if you can't see them close the gap on Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska I don't know what to tell you.  The team only loses 13 seniors, I'm hopeful they can keep it going. If they fall back a few seasons, then you make a change.  Don't make the Brewster mistake again.

And those were all games they could have won with an average QB, that is my point.

That will not be the case in any year with Michigan or Ohio State on the schedule.

The only hard game was Wisconsin.

Penn State was a mess when we played them, and Nebraska is not good at all.

That is fine that you are OK with Claeys, I never will be. He put one players feelings (Leidner), over the rest of the team. He didn't even try a change at QB even though Leidner was a 200 pound anchor dragging down the rest of the team all season.

So you are saying he doesn't care about winning and is not playing his best QB?  That he'd rather have Leidner feel good about himself than keep a job or have a chance at a big raise with a big season?  That makes zero sense.

If you don't like Claeys, who is going come here and do better?  Name some names.

Yes I'm saying that. He didn't even try a change. Why throw in the towel when you have a chance at a Big10 title game?

It's not my job to find his replacement.

But considering Claeys was an assistant for like 20 years without a head coaching offer, and seems baffled by basic clock management, I'd think it wouldn't be hard to find an upgrade.

His team is also undisciplined. And like it or not, in college football, you need a personality to sell your program.
