Article: Derek Falvey, Thad Levine Era Begins

Recommended Posts

Man I hope this is pure lipservice.

This all day.

Also, I'm not going to lie, I was slightly irked that Molitor came off as teflon in that article. Any flaws as a manager or responsibility for that disaster of a season just seemed to slide right off. I get it that he isn't supposed to be teaching basic fundamentals but are we supposed to believe the baserunning, pitching, and defense are that bad in the minors? If they are that bad, then why is he bringing players up and putting them into positions where they have no chance to succeed.

The decision to keep Molitor has been made.  Why would anyone expect Falvey and Levine to say anything except we are happy to have a great baseball man like Paul Monitor as our manager?   They spoke of the importance of working together.   One does not promote that cooperation by criticizing a member of the leadership team publicly.

Yep, and Mollie will be one of the first voices Falvey gets input on when deciding trades??
And Falvey will have no input on players roles on the field?
Talk about total buzz kill.

Man I hope this is pure lipservice.

It wasn't "lipservice" -- Molitor is the manager and they need to have a positive relationship with him.  They're building that.  He is still likely gone in one year barring a legendary turn of events.  They are giving Molitor a chance to prove himself, good for them.

Yeah it doesn't help anybody if they get off on the wrong foot. They have at least one season together. What they do after 2017 will be interesting tho. Maybe they can find a manager with better leadership qualities so they dont' have to burn roster spots on token veterans.

If he's likely gone in a year anyway, then why oh why would he have input in trades?

They want him to succeed, not fail. The goal isn't to get rid of him, even if that's a likely result.

That still doesn't answer my question on why he'd have input on trades though.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that Mollie rips on front offices that meddle with the manager, while the same article suggests he should have input in front office decisions?
