Pie In The Sky Trade Idea

Loosey

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if any of you are aware, but it has come to my attention the Twins need help with finding pitching.  What the Twins do have is a plethora of young hitters.  Some proven, others not so much.

So to get young pitching the Twins will have to trade from this area in my opinion.

Then this trade idea popped into my head, it's probably outlandish, it's 1 day away from the off-season and I wish the Twins were one of the two teams playing in game 7 of the World Series.

If an Independent Trade Maker Upper, "ITMU" (made up job, but I would apply if real) drop this trade on each teams doorstep does either one say no instantly?  Or do other pieces get added to make it happen?

Here it is:  Miguel Sano for Julio Urias

The reason the ITMU came up with this trade is because the Dodgers currently have Chase Utley at 2nd base and is old.  Justin Turner is a Free Agent but could move to 2nd if re-signed.  That leaves 3rd base open.  Miguel Sano (sort of) plays 3rd base.  The Twins need pitching as I mentioned in the opening paragraph.  They also have some repetitiveness in the infield that could be solved with this trade

My question is what pieces are needed to be added to make something this fake deal happen?  Or is the Independent Trade Maker Upper out of his/her mind for thinking the Dodgers would even consider this?

We can't give up on Sano this early he will be an invaluable piece of the offense, if we go after him lets trade Dozier for Urias and Kyle Farmer C/3B or Micah Johnson 2B/OF

Trading a player is NOT giving up on a player. It is using that resource to get other resource(s).

I worded that wrongly I apologize what I was trying to say is we can't lose him if we lose him it feels like giving up to me we got a few internal options so lets wait another year if he doesn't start producing then i'm on board

There's no way the Dodgers would give up Urias for Dozier in a 1-for-1 trade. I think Dozier's got more value to the Twins than what they could get in a trade.

Going through the prospects of teams like the dodgers that need an option at 2B nothing is really getting me too excited so I see your point.

Never trade a young, elite, hitter for a pitcher. I'd need 2 more of LA's top prospects to do that trade. Pitchers get hurt, a lot. Their success is more variable. The risk is all on the side of the team receiving the pitching. That risk has cost.

I'd agree, but Sano hasn't shown that he is an elite hitter yet. I think I'd make the trade if I were the Twins.

He's on his way. A 3.39 ERA with a 9.8 K/9 as a 19 year old? We are talking about Julio Urias, right?

As opposed to Sano's first year success?

Go find me a trade like this, where the team giving up a young, elite, hitter, gets 1 SP back that has no MLB track record. I bet that would be hard to do in the last decade.

Sano is also on his way. First 162 games of his MLB career .260 BA .871 OPS 37 HR 101 RBI. We are talking about Miguel Sano, right?

it's tough I know we need pitching but I don't want to lose that 30 HR potential would it be a good idea to wait and see how some of the internal options pan out first?

25 players in the AL hit 30 or more HRs this year. Only 18 starters had an ERA under 4. I'd rather get some pitching help.

If LA is the partner team, you trade them Dozier.

They will have a need at 2B, and also need a power hitter. Not sure Dozier by himself gets it done, but there's plenty of other prospect chips to add in to make it happen - Same idea as a Pittsburgh trade for Glasnow or Taillon.

He took a step back this year, in a record HR year, he has durability issues, and is mediocre in the field. I don't like to talk negatively about Sano because I'm a big fan, but for Julio Urias, yeah I'd make that deal.

You realize there are A LOT more hitters that "qualify" than pitchers, right? A LOT.

Sano has the 37th highest wRC+ in baseball since he came in the league, after a "down" year this year......

Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda is a decent example. That doesn't really help either of our cases though. Pineda got hurt, but has rebounded some, and Jesus Montero has been hot garbage.

You're entitled to this opinion. We'll never come to an agreement however. I'm trying to think of any pitcher that would prompt an interest in trading Sano. Thor and Sale are the only ones where I would.

Urias is a pretty big talent but his numbers are boosted a bit by his home park.  He was basically on pace for a 2 WAR season - which is fantastic for a 19 year old kid, of course.  But, even ignoring the injury risk I think it's a pretty fair question that he'd be better than Sano, although that might depend on how you view/measure defense.

They've got a ton of young pitching... Urias, De Leon, Alvarez, Buehler, Sheffield...

The Twins would love to have their depth of top-of-the-line-potential in their system.

if they move him to first it could work but then there is the brick wall that is Joe Mauer in the way.
