It would be a mistake to let Boshers go?

Not sure about that.  The Twins need to be in full rebuild mode, and this means that 29 year old Boshers, who actually pitcher pretty well for a dumpster dive acquisition and the A- grade is fitting within that context, has no place in the team because pitchers like Mason Melotakis, and even Cam Booser and Mike Theophanopoulos who have been moving way too slowly in the organization need to potentially have a chance to show whether they belong in the long term discussions.  They will be 26, 25, and 24 years old next season, thus they belong to the same age argument you make for Chargois ;)

Melotakis was injured in 2015, Cam Booser is now pretty terrible, and Mike Theofanopolous also has some control issues--and he will be at AA to begin the season anyway.

Melotakis will be up for the Twins next year by mid-season.

This feels like a more realistic outlook for Melotakis, which I appreciate. I haven't read much on this site that talks about the concern with his splits vs. LH and RH hitters.

Not ready to write him off yet, and neither are you. But, if he does end up being just a LOOGY as a 2nd round pick, that's not good.

He's entering his age 26 season. It's time to see what he can do in the majors at some point in 2017.

He pitched well when he wasn't hurt. What more do you want?

May fans are choosing to ignore how wild May was last year.  10 wild pitches and 2 hit batters in 42 innings is terrible.  Stretch that to a full season and you're looking at Sam Deduno-level control with a worse ERA.

May's career in Minnesota will last around 2 more months if he does not start throwing the ball over the plate. I'm sorry but that's the reality of the situation.

His walk rate in 2015 was awesome as a starter, the 2nd best of any starter.

May was doing excellent as a STARTER before his undeserved demotion to the pen.  Team jerking him around probably ruined him, health-wise.  Hopefully he comes back and our new POBO and GM won't be maroons, like the GM we had going into this past season was, and they actually make him a starter again.

Appreciate that, and you reading.

A lot of people say that but it's not true.

2015 as a starter:  4.43 ERA, 7.9 K/9, .772 OPS against.

2015 as a reliever:  2.87 ERA, 10.6 K/9, .697 OPS against.

His 2015 ERA as a starter made him the worst starter on the team.

His ERA as a reliever was 2nd best on the team.  He had a sub.3.00 FIP as a reliever.

Moving May to the pen in 2015 was a good move.  Was it a good move to keep him there in 2016?  No idea.  He certainly did himself no favors with his control problems.

When demoted, May had more K/9 than any starter we had in the rotation and THE BEST FIP.

He had the second best BB/9 ratio.

His HR/FB rate was very good.

His HR/9 was good.

What hurt him was the BABIP against of .344 (as opposed to , say Gibson and his .287 BABIP against).

He ended up 3rd in WAR for our starters even though he only started 16 games.

May was and still is a lot better than Pelfrey, which the article mentioned.

Your last paragraph hits the nail on the head. The time will never be better to move Santana. I enjoyed watching him pitch last year, since he was really the only SP who was consistent. Still, get out of the contract now while he has good trade value.

Nah.  He has 2 years on his contract.  Him staying great for 24 months is a bad bet to take due to his age.

Now if 2017 ends up fine, someone may take the 12 month bet next offseason.  I think you could put money on that.  Contenders are always looking for back end starters and if he has a good 2017, he would be the best back end starter on the market.  He would be very little risk for a contending team's #4 or #5.

If he stumbles through 2017 then he's a Twin forever.  :o
