Surprising non-tenders yesterday in Tyson Ross and Wellington Castillo. Also interesting to see how some of the deals just before the deadline may have been different if those two were known to be available, which it sounds like neither was shopped at all in the last week or two.

Really?  That is interesting.

He'd instantly become my top FA target now that Castro is signed.

He had TOS surgery this summer, and there is no real time line for return on that, so there's no guarantee on what you'd get in 2017. He was projected at $9M in arbitration, which is likely the sticking point. I'm sure if you went to him with a 2+1 deal in the $15-20M guaranteed range, he'd listen pretty strong.

Ross is an intriguing name for sure. Just not familiar with the rehab process after TOS surgery to know if it's worth the gamble.

ESPN Staff Writer

Baseball writers vote to make ALL Hall of Fame ballots public beginning with the 2018 class. No more anonymity. The full list of voters and their choices will be released seven days after the official announcement of which candidates are selected, beginning in January 2018. This does not take effect for the class to be announced next month. Voters, one last time, can optionally reveal their ballots.

I love this!

Free agent catcher Wilson Ramos and the Rays have agreed to a two-year deal, Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets. ...Ramos will receive a total of $12.5MM guaranteed, with the potential to make up to $18.25MM with incentives, FanRag’s Jon Heyman tweets.

I'm surprised the Rays of all teams nabbed him. If he doesn't reach those incentives, that means we're paying Jason Castro more per year and overall. I know Ramos isn't good defensively and had a ACL tear... but that's a heck of a deal by the Rays. Kudos to them.

Sounds like Ramos would have signed on the line for the first team to give him 2/$20M even with incentives, but found no takers. That just surprises me. Yes, the offense was a first time thing to be at that level of production, but he's always been a solid defender with pop before this.

In fairness, imo, Ramos won't play much, if at all, the first half of next year. He may never catch again. He may catch again, but may not. This team needs a catcher, not a DH/catcher. I get the Ramos love, but it comes with considerable risk. The Rays decided they could take that risk.

Frankly, given the Red Sox and Yankees and TOR (for another year or two) teams, about all the Rays can do is take risks. If they play the odds, they have no chance to win, as the odds are stacked against them greatly.

I'm going to double down on that limb and predict cold weather in Minnesota for about three more months too. If I keep this up I might be able to get my own show!

Way too real to have a show.....what's the shtick, the truth? good luck with that...

Gonna guess Cubs fans will be a bit more mellow toward their traditional rivals now. :)

not according to every Cubs fan I know and have talked to this morning (about 20 of them or so:-))

One of the responses I can repeat is: 'Disgusting.  Any team but them.'

Chris Rose from Intentional Talk tweeted this out just a few minutes ago: 'How do Cubs fans feel about Dexter Fowler going to the Cardinals.  Big deal or just business.  Let us know at Intentional Talk.'

The winter of the Tyrell Jenkins hot potato continues. After being traded from the Braves to the Rangers, then DFA'd by the Rangers and being claimed by the Reds soon after, today he was DFA'd by the Reds and claimed by the Padres.

In memory also of a recent Twins DFA/claimed/DFA/claimed/DFA/claimed who shall remain nameless:

If you believe in forever

Then life is just a one-night dream,

If there's a DFA heaven

Well you know they've got a hell of a team
