Article: What To Do With Michael Tonkin

Recommended Posts

I'm fine with him as a 6th inning guy, but those relievers are dime a dozen. If he's cheap, keep him through arbitration. If they cut him lose, so what.

Tonkin is why I read K/9 and mph numbers with a grain of salt.

Tonkin isn't eligible for arbitration yet, so he'd still make the minimum for at least one more year.

I agree with Mike Sigel above. Except I'm more fore protection get him at this point. I think next year is the time to decide on him. He was solid most of the season. I suspect he has worn down from over use age. He does have stuff to work on but he has that so important k rate that is needed for a low era....

I dunno, hard to say that a guy needs a more high leverage role and suddenly he'll be just fine. That's like me asking for a raise at work because if I earned more money, I'd be less likely to sleep on the job. Tonkin can't pitch to lefties, he's not going to be a one-inning guy until he can do that. Time for him to solve things - blaming his role is putting the cart before the horse.
