Current TV, regardless the year

Wow, that was a fast production cycle, as I believe Season 2 wasn't announced until well into the first season.   (Part me fears this will end up like the second-going of True Detective).

Also, the title of this thread is gaining renewed accuracy...

That's a possibility but True Detective was its own beast. It was a standalone story that took years to craft.

Whereas Stranger Things is a more linear, traditional show. That doesn't mean the showrunners know where to go next (see Heroes) but it's easier to write a second season of this kind of show than starting over from scratch with a new idea.

if this is like Heroes, I may never watch tv again.

Did anyone watch Orville last week?

I watched the first half of the episode that was on last night after the game, before being called away to other matters - was that a rerun of the pilot, or the second episode? It had the dude sitting on an egg.

I loved Family Guy, was meh about the teddy bear movie, but this is so strained. I can't see this show lasting another month, but I am usually wrong about episodic TV.

Hard to say. I saw the 2nd half last night, so between us we saw it!

The first year of TNG was pretty bad....but they stuck with it.

This one could go either way, as it looks like there's a lot of duds coming out on network TV for the Fall. If, for example, Gotham can get a 4th season somehow, anything is possible.

Well, the first episode of Star Trek had some lighter moments, but seemed pretentious to me......will be good to watch it in a year or three when it doesn't cost me more money.....

I just read one review that said it was really good. Missed the first episode but was wondering what everyone thought.

Most of what I've read is glowing. I found it, um, not as entertaining as I wanted. Can't put my finger on why, exactly......I think for me it was too much the story of 1 person, and not a group. Star Trek always seems like a group to me.

I saw the first two episodes of Discovery, and enjoyed them.  I went in with zero expectations, and I knew it wasn't going to be like TNG--I'm not sure that an episodic Startrek can succeed today (though Orville might prove me wrong).  As I understand, beginning in the third episode, the series becomes more of typical Startrek show, following a single ship, with a single crew, for the span of the season.  Many reviewers have seen the third episode and say it's more consistent, less actiony, less exposition, and more depth.

I went ahead and subscribed, because there's not alot of shows I'm really enjoying.  5.99 for two or three months is less than going out for dinner. I'll cancel after the show ends.  Those skeptical of the subscription should wait until the season is over, and then get the CBS All Access one week trial and binge watch it (assuming it's still offered, if not, watch the season for 5.99).

As an aside, another show I've started to sink my teeth into is Netflix' Ozarks, which has a pretty stellar cast, and something like Breaking Bad in hickville.

I'll definitely keep watching Discovery. It didn't really hook me - too early in the character arcs to really get behind - and the main character (Michael) starts off more unlikeable than I'd like to see.

But, like all Fuller shows, Discovery is very well written. That in itself will keep me tuned in for awhile.

Fourth was pretty good too. Not perfect by any means, but most shows take a long time to hit their stride.

My luck with The Orville has not been good. After seeing only part of an episode involving a tough guy sitting on an egg, I watched an episode that was paint-by-numbers anti religion. I'm not even religious but the stick-figure portrayal of the leader of that culture's religion set my teeth on edge from start to finish. Surprise me a little, Seth!
