Current TV, regardless the year

My wife, who has come in and out of the last few seasons, watched a couple of episodes with me and asked, "so when do we find out Zoey isn't actually dead as some sort of twist?"

This is how I now feel when I watch the news (that will be the extent of my political commentary on this thread).

I'm going to go with an Andy Kaufman reference instead, just as soon as I can think up a good one.

Huh, first Iron Fist, then Luke Cage, and now Daredevil cancelled by Netflix. I guess The Punisher and Jessica Jones will each get one more season and then also be gone.

The Disney-Netflix war is in progress.

It didn't help that Iron Fist was so bad the first year.

Also, I admit, even as a fantasy / sci fi guy, that I have super hero fatigue. If you can't lose, I'm not sure where the drama is.....if it isn't about being a hero, and about other stuff, then why bother with the hero stuff?

Curiously, Agents of SHIELD re-runs actually have done better on Netflix than any of the original series. Of course, AoS has already been renewed for both a sixth and seventh season. Makes me happy, at least.

It's our modern mythos.  And it's popcorn stuff, I watch all kinds of different things so I enjoy the super hero stuff as a nice slice of the pie.

I'm sad to see the Netflix brand go, but it was waning in quality.  DD season 3 was excellent and I'm looking forward to Punisher's second season, but everything since about midway through Luke Cage's first season has been mediocre to bad.  All the Iron Fist, the Defenders, 1.5 of the Cage seasons, the back half of DD season 2, JJ season 2, etc.  It's mostly been uninspiring.

Still, end of a nice little era of TV.

Not sure if this belongs here, it being Amazon Prime, but I saw episodes 1 and 2 of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel on my flight the other day, and I recommend it highly. Rachel Brosnahan does a, well, marvelous job. The supporting cast is fun too.

Am I the only one who doesn’t get the love for The Good Place?

It’s a show I want to love but the character chemistry is so inferior and awkward to Parks & Rec that I struggle to care much about it. It's a fine show but I don't get why people are raving about it.

The cast of Parks and Rec was special, I don't know if there has ever been a better ensemble than that show produced.  Seinfeld worked well with four, but Parks and Rec. had a dozen characters that fit perfectly.

We binged the first two seasons of the Good Place this weekend.  I like the Good Place, the premise is really interesting and the show has transformed itself successfully twice.  It's not nearly as laugh out loud funny as Parks and Rec, but I dig it.  (Tahani's bit is getting old though, she's a bit too abrasive.  Not unlike Amy Poehler was the first season of Parks)

I will echo this. Fast paced and a great cast.

My wife also highly recommends it. I'll watch it someday.

Yep. I view Parks & Rec and The Good Place as nearly polar opposites, at least in the sense that they're as different as shows can be that were created by the same person.

Parks & Rec was a boring, pretty straightforward high level concept that thrived on nearly perfect execution and acting. The Good Place is an excellent high level concept with *much* weaker execution and acting.

Not that I hate The Good Place or anything. There's a lot to like about the show but it's definitely a step down from Schur's previous work on Parks & Rec and The Office.

BTW, learned something hilarious just a few weeks ago. Michael Schur (writer for The Office, showrunner for Parks & Rec/The Good Place, EP on Brooklyn 99 for those unaware) played the role of Cousin Mose on The Office. It makes sense once you think about it because Schur's trademark has become nearly perfect (and infrequent) use of tertiary characters like Mose but it's still freakin' funny.

Schur was also Ken Tremendous on the Fire Joe Morgan blog. He's had a wildly awesome career.

My degree in philosophy makes me nerd out about the show. I wish it were a tad funnier but I enjoy it. Parks and Rec is probably my second favorite sitcom all time behind the early years of the Simpsons. So, for me, it's no shame not to be that good.

I thought the beginning of the third season it was starting to get a little stale, but then it clicked again.  The actress playing Janet had a tour de force performance in the episode leading into the holiday break.  Jason is the character who I think is funny in small doses, but gets a little tedious when is the focus of an episode.

They just need more consistency.

Is the newest season on Prime yet?  We watched the first....two I think?...but the one that was last aired on Sci-Fi wasn't out yet.

I enjoy hate watching The Gifted right now too.

The first three seasons are up on Prime now.  I don't know when the fourth season is due out.

It's basically a car crash that you cannot look away from right now. I finish an episode thinking there could be so much more there...but then I tune back in the next week.

It's so true.  There are pieces that are encouraging....but then you feel like you need to MST3K some of the awful stuff they put in.  I have trouble describing it to people, it's like the good parts of the X-men movies with a lot of Batman v Superman "Martha" moments that pop up to keep you confused/irritated/emotions I can't explain.

I’m only a few episodes into it so I don’t know what kind of legs it will have but Letterkenny is comedic genius. You can find it on Hulu.

Warning: it’s likely the kind of show you will love or hate. I don’t think there will be a lot of middle ground on this one.

I watched the first episode some time ago and being a card carrying Canuck, I felt obligated to enjoy it. I didn't, and haven't watched another episode. Perhaps I should give it another chance.

Big Mouth on Netflix, animated, anyone?  At times I felt like I should go to jail for laughing at this.

If you do decide to watch, make sure there are no children within 100 miles of your TV.

The Hormone Monster and The Shame Wizard are fantastic.

No, you probably shouldn't. It's not a show that will grow on you. It's a show that you either love in the first five minutes or just don't care to watch.

No answer is wrong, except one answer is wrong.

Watched the first 2.5 episodes of The Umbrella Academy and wow am I disappointed right now.

Hour long episodes, watched 2.5 of them. That’s a long-ish movie running time. Almost nothing has happened.

Which is too bad because I like the premise, like the cast, and wanted to like the show. But after the fifth time the writers chose to hide the ball (again) instead of revealing *anything*, I simply lost interest.
