Article: Game Thread: Twins @ Tigers, 9/12 @ 6:10pm CT

The Twins travel to Detroit to kick off a 4 games series with the Tigers. They have already played 13 straight games in the AL Central and after this series… it will be 17 straight. You’d figure… after all this time in the Central that the Twins would be centered by now… but… not so much.

It’s certainly been an off-kilter season.

Here are some things to think about:

1. The Sun – Sitting in the center of our Solar System, we’d be in a lot of trouble, if the sun were to go away. It would take 8 minutes for us to realize it because that is how long it takes for sunlight to reach the earth. The first clue would be total darkness… the 2nd clue would be the power company refusing to send a crew out to fix it

2. C.I.A – I started thinking about the Central Intelligence Agency for the purposes of thought #2 and I quickly realized that there were many ways that I could go with this. In order to streamline and focus my thought… I decided to do some internet research. I must have spent an hour researching the C.I.A and now I have 4 black vans parked outside my house.

3. Central Park – Right in the middle of Manhattan is a large rectangular thing called Central Park. 843 Acres of park space in the middle of some of the most valuable real estate in the world. It has taken some effort but today the park is a fairly safe place. It wasn’t always that way… it was a fairly dangerous place at one time but that never bothered me. I had the heart of a lion and because of that… a lifetime ban from the Central Park Zoo.

4. Daycare Center – Back when our kids were younger and my wife and I were both working, we did the math. With two kids in daycare… we’d have about $90 left from our paychecks… It sounded worth it.

5. Rugby, North Dakota – The actual geographical center of North America is 16 miles southwest of Rugby North Dakota. That didn’t stop Rugby from putting up a 15 foot tall rock obelisk at the crossroads of U.S. 2 and ND Highway 3 that gives the impression of being the actual spot. Our family rolled through Rugby and I stopped at the obelisk and my oldest son smiled and said, “Am I really standing in the exact center of North America?” I told him… “Not really… It’s actually 16 miles that way in the middle of a slough.” He then asked, “Why did we stop here then?” I replied, “I didn’t think you’d ask a question about it.”

Rugby cannot be the center of North America! The only way that works is if you are including Canada? It's not North Canada, it's North America! And them people are not 'Murricans. :)

I worked with a guy while living in Canada who referred to himself as an America ... a North American. He made a point to tell me just about every day that those from the States aren't the only Americans and it's wrong to call ourselves that.

I lived in a Central American country for five years and they referred to themselves as Americans too.

Mexicans often refer to themselves as "Nord Americanos". Apparently many also consider themselves "Americans" too, given all of the "border crossings".

While I had not considered that, it's a tough decision for me. KC ain't bad either. Keeping Texas is an awful lot to expect just so I can eat fine beef. I still think those guys at the Alamo should have split!

There's people down here who wishes the same. United State of Texas!

Really? People pay even more in Canada and Europe for child care?

Oh, that's what he meant?  I thought that he meant that the kids were underpaid.  I never knew that the US sweatshop workers were so underpaid.  I wondered why wasn't this a bigger story?!

that and it is also (partially or fully) paid for by the government in some countries. The workers here make very little money. These people are educating and raising children.....perhaps we should put a bit more resources into that than we do.

Pffft.  Crazy talk.  It's not as though children are the country's future or anything...
