Deletion of threads

My one word to describe the 2016 Minnesota Twins thread was deleted.

 

Good lord mods, easy up on the censorship eh? That thread was in good fun, stop with deleting everything that can potentially make a person or two slightly upset.

I'm all for humour and good fun (see Simpsons thread, amongst others ), but threads designed to invite nothing but potshots aren't needed.

Only a select few have moderator power, though, and they should probably not do the things they are trying to stop others from doing.

I applaud their restraint, in general. If anything, I find it too lenient.

Yes, For the majority of moderators (so 'in general', like you said), I whole-heartedly agree. I was clear, it was about select moderators.

Well in reality it isn't very clear. A "select few" moderators is intentionally vague, since we're not sure who you're talking about, we're all left with the same impression.

 

Mod warnings are not meant to abuse some sort of power or flex some sort of muscle, they are intended to try and lower the temperature or try to get conversation back on track without handing out warning points, which we'd rather not do.

 

Talking in generalities like this isn't overly helpful, I suggest if you have an issue with any action by a moderator that you contact one of us with it personally.

I'm the one who closed it and I didn't expect universal agreement on it. That said, I stand by thinking this site can do better without stuff like that.

agreed, it was lighthearted (sarcastic) and was getting some funny responses.

 

It's a100+ loss Season, let people make a few jokes about it. Pretty harmless if you ask me, but then again, it's up to the mods, so it is what it is. I'm sure a few people complained, so while I don't agree, I will respect their wishes.

 

Fwiw I wasn't trying to make a "bad" thread or anything, I just thought it was kind of funny/lighthearted at the time.

Fair enough, from what I saw everyone kept it light hearted (or at least to just using one word)

 

I think the trigger finger was a bit to itchy, but again that's just my opinion, I know some people probably reported the thread etc which lead to the deletion.

I know this is in jest, but still this one doesn't sit right with me.

 

It's not like anyone was bashing any individual player, coach, personality or front office person. It was coming up with one word to describe the 2016 Twins as a whole. I really don't see the harm or the issue. Are you guys that worried that somehow it's going to hurt someone's feelings or something?

If the thread was: one word to describe the Paul Molitor experiment, I could sort of see a deletion if it's getting out of hand/personal, but in this case? Censorship to the max. You guys should reconsider and open it back up.

I have no strong opinion....other than I am opposed to deleting threads because they MIGHT bring badness to the site......I prefer the site to be open to all kinds of discussions, even ones that are unrealistically good or bad.

It's not what I would have done, but most responses were not (that I read.....there may have been more) were not all that different than what we read most days.

 

As you hopefully know, I admire the work the mods do here. Really appreciate it, even when I disagree.

For the record, although it's been North here defending moderator action, there was near unanimous agreement among the mods.

 

That doesn't make us right, but it does mean North didnt take any unilateral action here.
