Wolves Site

I can't imagine the team's approval would be necessary (unless we're talking about the Minncentric 'team'). Probably more to do with participation. I'm not sure how expensive it is to keep these sites up. I'm sure they've looked into it. I for one, though, would be all over that site in the winter.

Could also be finding enough willing, able and established contributing writers/bloggers. But that's just another guess. It's likely a lot of reasons. I'm just a moderator, though, not an owner, so I have no idea.

The problem is that they are truly independent sites. That gives them more potential to take off since they will attract new users with a custom site vs a sub forum on the Twins site but I really can't be bothered to switch sites and track another full forum. I really don't have time to even pay attention to this forum and will probably just disappear at some point.

Fact of the day - I joined BattleYourTailOff 10 years ago when that forum was launched. It has since shut down/merged with this site.

Well, geez. When you put it that way...

I suppose we're all just gonna be dead someday anyhow. Suggestion retracted.

Wasn't BYTO earlier than that? I thought it launched in, what, 2002 or 2003? Meh, I'm old(er) now and don't remember things so well anymore.

The group was formed on ESPN's fan forums (whatever they were called) much earlier but that sucked overall so they started the site in 2006. I went from lurker (on ESPN) to a regular.

And here we are a decade later...

Not sure what you mean by this. A Wolves forum is a great idea but it requires a strong starting user base, article writers and a steady stream of new users not currently on the MinnCentric sites. And probably a lot more.

I enjoy checking a few threads (which is one thread) on here about the Wolves but don't have the time to follow an entire forum.

Yeah, I was a 'barely but sometimes' poster on the ESPN boards sometime after I moved to Chicago in 2000, and gladly made the jump to BYTO, but I was OLTF back in those days. You may have remembered the special 'For Better For Worse' thread Hawkiconk and I kept going. Heh. Good times.

I remember. Your rank icon was 'I need more shoes' or something.

Oh right ... Lol ... I had forgotten that. Our rank status were dictators, but I had my own, because, well, I had to have a female, so mine was Imelda Marcos and that was the tag.

The Viking and Wild forums are struggling for exactly this reason.  I don't acknowledge soccer as a thing and it looks like the forum might have stopped doing so as well.

Yep for sure. I try to put my 2 cents in on the Vikings thread, but Twins Daily has an exponential amount of active posters compared to the other sites.

The soccer forum, formerly known as Northern Pitch has gone its separate way and is no longer a MinnCentric entity, I believe.

It launched between June 2-6 of 2006. Can't recall the exact date.

It started on a lark, really. ESPN had bungled their message boards (again) and I asked who wanted a new site. A bunch of people responded and BYTO was born about five hours later (I had a forum up and running for another site that hadn't launched and hijacked the code to get BYTO up in a few hours).

As funny as the name was, I spent less than five minutes thinking about it and chose the first thing that popped into my head. It's weird how things play out like that sometimes.

Yeah, I try to make some conversation on the Wild page from time to time and while there is a small, solid group of posters over there, it's too much like I'm interrupting their lunch every time I do.

Yeah, I like the Wild guys too, but it does feel insular.  But that's probably because the posting base is so small.

The Vikings page tends to make my brain bleed internally.  Plus, I really hate walls of reposted twitter comments.  It's like reading bleacher report in forum form.

Battle Your Tail Off.

And I'm with you, I try to chime in over on the Vikings page and it just isn't worth it.  Mostly it's a bunch of reposted Twitter comments and I just lose interest.

Why wouldn't you say this over at Vikings Journal? I share your guys' concerns with not having time to bounce around ... and I'm only over here to see if you guys have the same problem, because our site hasn't been working for nearly two hours now. This conversation was an interesting find. That's for sure!

Anyway, as far as the Twitter comments, I do that to save time. Up until a week ago, I was working full-time and going to school full-time ... also basically running the forums part-time. Not to mention, I work overnights. (I should actually be sleeping right now, but I stayed up to do a few things on the site since it's been down for two hours.) It was a lot to handle. I do the best that I can, because when it comes to the forums, I literally do ALL of it myself. I also run the blog section, look for and guide new writers, share our stories on Twitter and elsewhere, etc. It's a lot! So when I have time, I find stories and interesting tweets to keep my small community informed. I'm sorry that you hate it, but that's just the way that it is.

Until we gain more regular members who contribute their own content, it is probably going to be this way. I'm sorry that you guys hate it, but I'm doing the best that I can. There are multiple other Vikings fan forums that have been around for over a decade. Do you know how hard it is to compete with those and establish your own community, basically from the ground up? Especially now with Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter ruling the world? Yeah, it's not easy. It takes a lot of work ... and time. I thought that was universally understood. I'm sure Wild Xtra has the same struggles as we do. Anyway, until we grow, I guess it's just going to suck and make your brains bleed internally.

I understand you're doing your best to keep the site updated with content, along with maintaining other stuff on the site, AND your real life work/school stuff.

I share the same concerns as Levi on Vikings Journal. IMO, the conversations need to breathe a bit more and let others chime in. It's difficult to follow a conversation between 2 posters when 7 twitter comments from people we may or may not care about are sandwiched in between.

Maybe we're more used to the flow of Twins Daily. Where a person starts a thread, and let's the conversation flow from there.

I'll still stop by and post my 2 cents from time to time, and understand you'll run the site how you want. But, like Levi, I think the Twitter comments can be too much.
