Overhead projectors were the best. Less than a 50/50 chance the operator got the image up correctly on the first pass! :)

My faith in our grade 10 Physics teacher was severely damaged by the fact he placed an image on an overhead projector upside down.....every....damn......day.....all....year long.

Speaking of pilots, how confident are you going to be to fly once people my age start becoming the pilot of your airplanes?

I used to get to the Spencer IA airport frequently. One evening I was talking to the two pilots of a twin engine turbo prop, who appeared to be about 16 years old, and just graduated from the Mankato State flight program. They filled me in on their route, and hours, and pay. I wasn't there to fly anywhere, and I was glad. I was not impressed at all by being flown by a slightly past teenager, who made about 20 K, and slept not only inconsistently, but infrequently!

I imagine some numbers were still fairly easy to comprehend? 69 comes to mind.

Well, you've got to start somewhere! So that's pretty cool they're getting their hours in to chase after their dream.

This is a 100% guess, but don't pilots need to fly for 10-15 years before they can become a captain of a commercial airplane? 99% of pilots I've seen on my flights are at least in their late 40's, and most of the time older than that.

They made it very clear that they were only there for the hours. I knew truck drivers who had better hours and more pay.

Great intro!  Loved the GPA comments.

Reminded me of the time in High School when I raced home to get the grades that were mailed home that day out of the mailbox before my parents got home...Too late.  Mail was already picked up.  Walked into the kitchen and on the table were my grades with a personal handwritten note on them from my dad.

It was a simple note.  Direct and to the point...It read: "with grades like these you seriously should not rule out community college.  Look at it this way, half the people you pass in the hall each day in school are doing better than you." (my class rank was 330/678).

My kids found those not too long ago.  They roared with laughter at Granddads note.

True story. In Catholic Hi School, Sister Xaverious (sp) was ancient and hard of hearing. She taught last hour math until the final bell at 3:10. By prior agreement at 2:30 everyone got up grabbed their books and started to walk out. One of her stress responses was "here here, stop it you children". Then she asked where we were going, and we asked, "sister didn't you here the announcement? School is dismissed early today." And we all walked out. There was hell to pay later of course, but well worth it!

I'm skeptical of any statement that begins with the disclaimer "true story".

Are we to assume that you are lying every time we don't see that disclaimer?

Ha!  I agree.  The one to really keep an eye for is when someone says, "to be honest..."  So you're saying everything else you've told me before was BS?

Another great thing about back to school... Is school lunch! School lunches I'm sure are night and day different than when we went to elementary/middle/high school. My favorite school lunches were taco day, and square pizza day!

What were yours?

Pizza Burgers

Dumbest reasons for getting detention...Go!

Mine would be for kicking an empty 20oz pop bottle down a stairwell and not picking it up.  The principal watched me do it.

That also has the distinction of being my old stint in detention.  My parents weren't even mad, they just laughed at me because we all knew it was stupid.  Not stupid that I got detention for it, just stupid.

Flipping off a cop from the back of a bus.

Hitting the principal in the head with a thrown penny from across the room.

i can't decide

Those weren't dumb reasons for getting detention. Those were dumb actions that earned you detention. Subtle difference I know.
