Dumbest reasons for getting detention...Go!

Mine would be for kicking an empty 20oz pop bottle down a stairwell and not picking it up.  The principal watched me do it.

That also has the distinction of being my old stint in detention.  My parents weren't even mad, they just laughed at me because we all knew it was stupid.  Not stupid that I got detention for it, just stupid.

We had hamburger gravy on mashed potatoes. Good times. Yah.

I love that over rice. Once, when visiting a Kraft plant, eating in their cafeteria, I had the hamburger gravy over rice. The guy sitting next to me said, "I see you're having the Gravy Train". It was never the same after that! :(

In grade school, no detention. Just recess revoked. No idle time, we had to do math cards, showing our work. There was a key in the cards the teacher could use to check the cards at a glance. While we never figured it out, a friend of mine did so many, that he kept a list of the answers, as the cards were numbered. We stil had to show the math, but we didn't have to worry about correcting the mistakes! :)

We got detention for breaking into the underground tunnels at our high school... You could pop the lock on a door in the maintenance building that takes you down there.

I spend almost all winter in shorts. In MN. My standard reply to people who question my sanity: "when is the last known instance of hypothermia in the Wal Mart parking lots?" :)

This is me as well.  My wife will be in layers around the house and i'm wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

For not having a book cover on my geography book in the 8th grade.

Simultaneously dropping your textbooks on the floor is a good way to get detention. Throwing typewriters from second story classrooms.

My personal fave was everyone trying to crush through the door at the same time as soon as the teacher opened it.

Good times.

Best one of those was the simultaneous hum.

Great intro RB.  I brought my oldest off to college last week...big step.  Cross the fingers.  In South Dakota they have a place called the School of Mines.  Not sure how it got that name, but I'm thinking that if they wander off the beaten path, they get blown up.  Didn't want to deal with all the aftermath of that so I convinced him to pick another college.

Your oldest is going to be an Engineer, eh?

He's thinking along the lines of internet security actually.

Interesting that he'd go to an engineering school for that.  But hey, you like what you like.  If he liked the campus and the program, why not?  That's what is important.

My aunt has a civil engineering degree from there.

No, he's not going to School of Mines.  He picked another school.

My oldest went to the School of Mimes, but he quit after two weeks. Claimed he couldn't hear a thing the teachers said!
