Article: Game Thread: Twins v Tigers, 8/23 @ 7:10pm CT

Recommended Posts

The Tigers are up next at Target field for a 3 game series starting tonight. After a needed day off… needed because the Twins just got swept by the Royals and they needed a day for refresher courses on how to play defense and… and… pitch and hit… you know… all of it because the Royals schooled them in… all of it. There really wasn’t a facet of the game of the baseball that the Twins didn’t struggle at. By this time of the season… you’d think this stuff would have been learned by now.

It’s late August and school is starting everywhere… let's hope the Twins can learn something.

Here are some things to think about:1. College – My youngest son started his first day in college yesterday. I’ve been telling him that it’s all about to change for him. He’s going to be living in a walk-in closet yet will still have more fun than ever. I said, “Have a good time but remember that you are setting up your future and it matters… Keep your grades up and you will look back on these years with a smile… That’s what I did in College." My Son asked, “What’s your GPA?" I told him, “About 28 in the city… 40 on the highway,” and then I got him back on topic.

2. Residency – My oldest son moved down to Phoenix a couple of weeks ago for his PT residency. Doing some work with actual, living, breathing patients with real ailments. I advised him to be confident and try not to say anything that might concern the patient. Don’t say things like… “Oops” or “What the hell is this?” “Before I start this next procedure, I’ll need full payment up front." And, “I’ll be right back because I need to grab some towels to soak up the blood.” Also, “Hey, Page 24 of the manual is missing” or “Don’t worry… this is basically practice for me so it doesn’t count." Like I said… he should project confidence and be reassuring… tell them confidently that any permanent physical deformities can be photo shopped.

3. Kindergarten – It all begins right here… your academic habits begin in what is called 'Kindergarten.' I remember my first report card… I brought it home and my Dad looked at it… and then he looked at me and said, "If this report card doesn’t improve… someone is going to get spanked." I could tell by the look on his face that he was quite serious and I got the message. I went to Kindergarten the next day and I told my teacher what my Dad said… someone was going to get spanked and I was pretty sure it was gonna be her.

4. School Bus – I used to take the school bus home every day from school. That lasted until the Police finally caught me and made me take the school bus back.

5. School of Fish – OK… I’m stretching for the final thought as it has nothing to do with school, but bear with me anyway. I went fishing last weekend with a good buddy of mine, and as we sat in the boat with a beer and our lines in the water, he surprised me when he said that he was thinking about divorcing his wife of 20 years. When I asked him why, he said that she hasn’t spoken to him in months. I told him, “Hang on to her… women like that are hard to find."

Great intro!

I was on my old college campus last week and marveled at how much different it is now from when I graduated 12 years ago. I also marveled at how young everyone looked and formed a renewed love of yoga pants.

Yoga pants are so comfy. Do you lounge around in yours, too?

I was going through my dads old stuff the other day, and found report cards from some of my brothers. They all echoed the same thought as mine did, and of our children, to wit: (fill in name here) is such a nice child, we are so pleased to have her/him on our class. She/he is such a joy! While he/she is doing fine, I am sure with a little more effort she/he could improve her grades quite a bit! I always wondered why at parent teachers they just didn't hand out 3x5 cards with this message, it would have saved so much time, and I could have gotten into the cookies and coffee sooner!

I'm not sure I understand the fascination in yoga pants? They are exercise clothes; like wearing sweats.

Lots of exercise gear looks good, at least in my opinion.  Form fitting, compression in the right spots, accentuating curves...

I better stop there, I don't want to sound too creepy.  I do mean those in a completely respectful tone.  I imagine there are odd things that women find guys attractive in that baffle us too.  My wife likes a plain white t-shirt with jeans.  How boring!

. I don't know about wsnydes but I was at the mall the other day, and not one person in yoga pants was exercising. Nor did I see one person in sweats. Hmm. That said I will acknowledge the comfort of my "Jammie's". But for the good of mankind, I don't leave the premises with them on! :)

I can concur with this, unless casually walking around campus with a backpack is considering exercise.

My "jammies" are gym shorts and a t-shirt and I always put something more presentable on even to run to Menards.

I'm all about casual. Jeans and t-shirts sounds good to me.

Yeah, glad you stopped where you did. I have a niece just out of college, one in college, and one to start in a year. Hearing a random much older male stranger on the internet possibly referring to one of them in such a manner could be creepy and brings out protective auntie which, believe me, you don't want to mess with. :) I guess it's okay to admire, but draw the line at specifics. But then I led you down that path rather intentionally.

Those young women are someone's daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, mom.

MUCH OLDER?!?!!?

Admire, never ogle.

I'm not really offended.  I'm 35, not 25 anymore.

Women in their 20's don't wear yoga pants for exercise.... Men having a fascination about them should be obvious. It shows off your figure!

some of the preceding comments remind me of Andy DeFrane (sp) I cannot remember the exact quote, but in the Shawshank Redemption, Andy got 30 days in the hole for suggesting to the warden that he was being (intentionally) obtuse! :).

That's what I love about these college girls... I keep getting older, and they stay the same age. Alright alright alright!

Um, they're just wearing regular clothes, not yoga pants so that's hardly an equivalent. And meh.

Um, you aren't comparing me to a warden for suggesting we be respectful, are you?

The guys are wearing regular clothes, but the picture is far too blurry to know what she's wearing.

Yeah, I've seen the movie and know she's right.  I'm trying to help defend my fellow creep Vanimal.

i wear sweat pants pretty regularly now. I've contemplated wearing them to work. Comfort beats pretty much every other consideration when you reach a certain stage in life. :)

Hmmm, so what I've gleaned so far is women wear yoga pants for men's entertainment.

Is that about right?

I can assure you that I don't wear them for anyone's entertainment but my own.

And that sounded weird. But I meant for exercise and comfort.
