Article: Should The Twins Sign Alex Rodriguez?

Recommended Posts

I think Miami or Texas are the only logical teams to consider it.

Miami because he lives there or something and he can team with Bonds and they can update each other on current untraceable juices.

Texas because he played there once and Fielder retired I guess and I think he would really annoy Adrian Beltre.

Yeah...too bad.

I had not taken the time to sign in lately, but this comment from Pardon My Dinger made me so happy, I just couldn't in good conscience not sign in to click "Like."

So dry.

So pithy.

Sooooo spot on.

Also by all accounts Barry Bonds has been a good influence in Miami, and McGwire in St Louis etc.

Once A-Rod is officially 100% retired, I would take him 7 days a week as our hitting coach over the "home run or strike out" tendencies that Bruno is teaching.

..or bring him on as a "Nutritionalist." I imagine he'd be quite innovative.

But you are right, if he still wants to play I bet it is in Miami.

And if ARod wants some batting tips he can turn to Barry Bonds and Ichiro right there in the dugout.

How to put it...

Taint no way this team needs him.

Taint just about his age.

Taint just because he's a Yankee.

Taint like we ain't got better guys already.

Let's steer the ship clear of the A-Roid. Taint nothing he or Barry Bonds or Mark McGwire or Sammy Sosa have that the Twins need.

And the comparison of A-Roid chasing 700 to Jim Thome chasing 600 is not even close. I don't think any Twins fan would enjoy watching that.

Odds are Thome probably tried a steroid or two back in the 90's too just like everyone else from that era

When your team loses 90 games or more for the better part of a decade, you give the fans the right to suggest literally anything to help turn the franchise around, up to and including petitioning MLB to allow Sano the use of a service monkey to assist him in fielding at third base.

That being said, signing Rodriguez now would make less sense than the flyer the Twins took on Kendry Morales in 2014, if Morales had also turned out to secretly be Emperor Palpatine.

There was a heated discussion on a GT recently about the appropriate time to use the CAP LOCK button. I doubt there will be any disagreement in its use on this thread! NO! NO! NO! I might add, the comments on this article would have been far more interesting if Reusse had written it! :). Someone was going to broach the topic, and Seth did it in a relatively cohesive manner. :). That said, I thought the 'con' section was about 4 pages too short!

Let's stop lumping everyone in that era as a steroid user, please.

The estimates I've seen are 30% at the peak of the steroid era.

That still leaves 70% that were clean.

Put A-Rod at 3b. Claim Gomez for CF. Send Berrios, Chargois, Polanco, Sano and Kepler down so Rochester can win a title and the players can remember what winning baseball is. Bring up Beresford, Britton, Van Mil, and Walden up so they can get a taste of the big leagues before they retire. September call ups is anyone on the 40 man roster you think has no real reason to be there and not  already in the major leagues  It would be a perfect plan for Antony if he thinks there is no shot to get the GM position.  As the oposing team would be far enough ahead not to worry, ARod could get up to maybe even get to 715 with a little juice and a Whizzinator.  110 here comes the Twins.

Almost all of Thome's best seasons were after the late 90's Roid-o-Rama era was over. And Thome's increase in power profiles like a gradually maturing lefty slugger, not a 30/30 guy who suddenly sports a Russian power lifter upper body and a 60 HR season out of nowhere.
