Pardon My Dinger

Yes, we always watched the CBC coverage in the UP and I also watched it while living in Detroit. 10x better than NBC.

Aye, ye wanna be slaggin' on NBC's coverage, do ye? Watch this for comparison's sake. (NSFW language in a spot or three.)

Michigan Tech - not much else up aside from a few universities and some awesome vacation spots.

i went to a summer program there eons ago for high school girls interested in engineering. I wasn't truly interested but my parents were bound and determined to have one engineer in the family and I was their last hope so they made me go.

Right after we were talking about timing jumps yesterday, Jeffrey Julmis does this in the 110 M hurdle race.

And, that kind of soccer is sooooooooooo boring.

He didn't look right even in his first few steps after the starting gun. Last-minute injury sucks, if that be the case - he might have been trying to tough something out.

(I can't figure out to just post the gif; even after reading the thread in the appropriate place.)

I tried to fix it for you but got a message saying not allowed to use that image in this community. <shrug>

Yeah, it's a video format, not a GIF. And if the <media> markup in square brackets doesn't work, all you can do is provide the link; I've only found it to work using classic YouTube URLs.

I've totally lost interest in the Olympics at this point. It is partly the coverage, and partly that I just don't watch stuff that doesn't scream "watch me" in general anymore.

I think my wife would watch it more if:

a: we lived in MN, and it wasn't over at 11

b: I wasn't in the room, ripping on the fluff all the time

I've always been much more interested in the Winter Olympics.

I was a pretty good hurdler in HS. I pulled my hamstring my senior year and my coaches kept pushing me to get back out there even though I couldn't extend my leg very far off the ground. That's what that looks like to me.

I never fell once though!

And for my vote, I love the Olympics. NBC has plenty of eye-roll moments, but that's not the competitors fault. In the NFL/MLB/NBA-only broadcasting era we now live in, I enjoy seeing all this athletic diversity.

It does appear that there's a hitch in his giddy-up right off the blocks. Like he's favoring his right leg.

I was thinking hammy too. Seemed he was favoring his right leg in the first few steps but it was the left that had to go up for the first hurdle - been too long since I was forced to attempt a hurdle race, am I correct in thinking that the opposite hamstring is most instrumental in lifting a leg? Or, maybe, either hamstring not cooperating is curtains.

Considering I topped out at a whopping 20" vertical in college, hurdles would be my mortal enemy. For those that can do hurdles, I applaud you. There's no way I could run and hurdle at the same time.

Yeah it looks like his plant leg is injured, but it really wouldn't matter which one was actually hurt. Initially it might seem like common sense that the lead leg is the one that matters since that is the one that stretches out, but the plant leg is where all the power comes from.

My local college has a really good track team and they asked me to walk on. I said no thanks, I need to focus on my long term goals of drinking way too much and growing out my beer belly.

Fat, drunk, and stupid is a hell of a great way to go through life, son.

Anyone watch Usain Bolt run last night? He's a ton of fun to watch. North's boy De Grasse wanted to beat him just one time!

Is there a more likable athlete than Bolt? Guy is unreal. De Grasse could be the dominant sprinter come 2020, he looks good so far.

Just saw that! What idiots. If they hadn't fabricated this story nobody would have heard anything about this altercation. Idiots. They deserve to be embarrassed about this. Where was the sober friend? It's a known rule, whenever in a dangerous foreign area, to have a semi sober friend to keep everyone safe. Especially if you have to play "real or not real."

I can't think of a more likeable athlete than Bolt these days. If only there was someone who could truly challenge him right now. De Grasse looked like he was going max effort, and Bolt started coasting a bit after the final turn. That was a great moment at the finish line when they were both smiling at each other, and Bolt kicked it in just a little bit to win at the end.

Followed up by the Mutumbo finger wag.
