Joe is playing Gold Glove caliber defense this year. Of course this doesn't mean he will win it but....

 

I wonder if in baseball history anyone won a Gold Glove at catcher and then at another position? I'm guessing not.

He absolutely should be strongly considered for GG. No need to suggest bias.

 

No other AL 1B has more defensive runs saved than Mauer.  The two that have the same amount have quite a few more innings played.  One has 55 more innings played and the other has 220 more innings played.  Additionally, of those three, he's 2nd in UZR/150, and overall 3rd in range.  Sounds like a strong GG candidate, regardless of the disdain for Mauer some have.

 

And the thing is the eye test confirms.  He's been awesome out there on D.  And as if we had forgotten that, he really flashed the leather all over the place (diving everywhere) in the first three games against Cleveland this week.
