Article: Five Potential Twins GM Candidates

Recommended Posts

You realize that she is from Indiana and went to college and worked for 6 years in Chicago right? While the Twin Cities might be slightly colder than those places I would venture to bet it's not that far off. according to the Weather Channel, Minneapolis was the coldest major metropolitan in the US and Chicago is the 6th and Indianapolis is the 15th. I'm sure she can handle the cold for an opportunity to be the GM of a major league franchise

Indianapolis, Indiana.  Do you realize how South that is?

Ok. Let's see:

South, Chicago, LA, New York.

What's the next logical step?   Minneapolis?

i would rather have Terry than Beane. Absolutely no continuity, completely undoes any positive trade by making a worse one, never won anything. His pitching draftees are not any different than the Twins.

Pass 1 million times.

I think Beane operates that way because of payroll limitations. His payroll is typically 25m or so lower than the Twins.

I will go as far to say if every major league team had a choice between Terry and Beane, every team would pick Beane

From the article, "Jim Bowden, who frequently negotiated trades with Ng when he was with the Reds, calls her a "solid negotiator" but that her "weak spot" might be scouting. "From what I've heard, evaluation of talent may not be her strength. That may hold her back"

Exactly what we don't need. Pass.

Except don't the Twins supposedly have a good scouting department? If that department is already excellent then you could afford to go with a GM that is good in other areas where the Twins may have some weakness, such as analytics, FA contracts, etc.

Well, I live there :)

You're right, winters are a breeze in Indiana in comparison to MN.  However, I'll be honest in that for a 7 figure salary and a good opportunity, you can afford to turn up the heat and buy a heavy coat. I don't think the weather is going to be the reason someone turns down the job, nor should it factor into hiring.

Not sure I agree here. Identifying talent doesn't appear to be the issue (at the moment at least).  You could have made that case a while back when it was clear that the scouting department didn't shift with new baseball trends, that's part of why this team had no help when things hit the fan in 2011, but that is a symptom of problems that were going on in 2006.

This team's problem is development. That's completely different from identifying talent.

I don't really care you gets the job as long as they come from a baseball organization with a dominant modern day baseball philosophy and they are able to assemble their own team of talent evaluators and talent developers.

Names don't mean crap to me as long as they get the job done.

Agreed.

1. Outside

2. Modern view of how baseball is run

3. Free to make all baseball decisions

Other than that, not sure I can say who would be good or bad....
