Mr. Robot - Season 2 Thread

Are you watching sports tonight? Hell no! Because it's the one day of year where there aren't any sports games on TV. Luckily for us, tonight is the season 2 premiere of Mr. Robot on USA Network!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=YibylhkLwGo

Apparently the first hour of the season premiere "leaked" on social media sites earlier this week... There are a ton of questions to answer this season, and I've been hearing the show is taking a dark direction. Can't wait!!

If you need to catch up on season 1, which is 10 episodes, you can find them on Hulu, the USA Network app, and perhaps other places.

I'm through episode 4 of Season one on Amazon Prime and Season 2 is set to record on my DVR.

I'm surprise because typically USA doesn't have intelligent shows, I had no intention of watching it last year because USA had always put out network quality junk previously, though admittedly, Burn Notice was a guilty pleasure for a couple seasons.

I'm guessing there is going to be a huge twist at the end of season one. I'm only guessing and I won't state my hunch in case I'm right. I hope I'm wrong about the nature of the twist (if there is one) because I'd like to be surprised and the twist I have in my head has been done before, but even if it's the one I'm thinking of, it still would fit really well with the direction the show seems to be going.

Also, great to see Christian Slater back! (again, only up to episode 4 and I'm not checking IMDB to see if he's in season 2 as well as I don't want to spoil anything for myself. I assume he is, but this is a bit of a dark show.)

I won't spoil anything for you since you're only on episode 4. You're also correct that for the longest time, USA Network spit out blah show after blah show. Then all of a sudden they hit the jackpot with Mr. Robot. As a result, they're doing a complete overhaul of their brand, and trying to be like AMC Network where they're known for drama TV shows.

I saw a few episodes of the Good Wife and Suits, both were pretty decent shows, Burn Notice (Bruce Campbell!!!!!!111!!) wasn't bad as well.

Good Wife wasn't on USA though,  It was a prime time show.  Suits was good, though and White Collar was very good.  Psych was fun.

Mr Robot is starting off the new season on fire! Literally, in one scene... A pretty intense power struggle going on between Mr. Robot and Elliot. We'll see how it plays out in the next few episodes!

Not sure if anyone else has kept up with this show. Judging by the ratings, probably not. It was dark for the first few episodes, but have really picked up the last couple of weeks.

Much like The Americans, this is an under appreciated show.

So, this show should be in my wheel house.  After the first season I had it on my list of shows to binge, but then the reviews on season 2 were largely pretty negative so I slid it down the list.

What say you folks who seem to enjoy the same tastes as me?  (Which probably is something you should all be ashamed of)

It got mixed reviews at the beginning because it started slow, and deceived the audience of what was really going on.

Once the twist was revealed, the last 3-4 episodes have been great. Same pacing and non-stop tension that we all came to love in season 1.

Yeah, agreed. I would bet that if those that weren't happy with the first four episodes went back and reviewed them after the season's first plot twist, they wouldn't have panned them.

Also, it's not like the first few episodes were bad. Without giving anything away, people seemed to not like the fact that a central character wasn't as involved with the main plot initially.

Season one basically had the plot laid out for the audience, but you just weren't sure of motives and character reactions. Season two clearly had a plot, but it was obfuscated from the audience, but not in a gimmicky way like Lost where it ended up seeming like the writers were making stuff up as they went along. The attention to detail in this show and the running themes made it clear that there were big things happening from the start but we couldn't quite put it all together until the season finale. Though I'm betting with a re-watch there will be clues everywhere now that we know what to look for.

Pretty negative? Where were you reading review at?

Season 2 was great!

AVClub is my goto spot for reviews, they liked the season overall and gave most episodes a B+ or higher IIRC

Yup, well stated, in this day of Fargo, True Detective etc people tend to forget sometimes that some of these great shows have stories that need to be told over 4-5 seasons.

Also season 2 is a perfect season to binge watch IMO, I will likely do that to catch back up before season 3 at some point with the fiancé.

The ringer, IGN, and several others were pretty down on the show.  Just a lot of buzz about the show's drop off.

I'll judge it myself as well, but I do think shows need to have solid seasons and not just a solid overall run to be judged a great show.

If anyone has kept up with this show (final season!) you’ll know this show is elite! I hope it gets the recognition it deserves before it’s all over.

I started watching it a long time ago and loved it... unfortunately, it's not on Netflix...

I feel like I should get back into it. We watched season one, then stopped a couple episodes into season two.

Season 2 admittedly got weird. Especially the first couple of episodes in that season. It ramps up quickly though once they get through the weird stuff. Season 3 and season 4 are no doubt home runs.
