Assuming I understand how the 11th round signing works, we are about 200k over slot numbers.  Kirilloff won't need to go that far under slot to even things out.

What's the most we can go over without penalty?

The graphic up top is wrong, I didn't factor in that the first $100K doesn't go towards the pool. So they are $151,000 over currently.

They have to pay a tax for going over and that is not something they were willing to do at all last year. Their limit will be their pool, I'm sure.

EDIT: I've fixed the graphic and Casey Scroggins just tweeted out that he signed his contract.

The Twins aren't acting very Twins like this year.  With the signing of Benninghoff, they almost certainly will dip into the 5% over slot.  Now they need to get the Canadian pitcher and their #1 pick signed...and all is good!

Agree 100%. From all I've seen and read, I think the Twins drafted some very nice players, and for once, seem to be "playing the game" that other franchises have been ahead in previously.

They concentrated early on HS talent for the lower minors where there is pitching, but perhaps less hitting and positional strength. (Despite some young raw Latin players) Next, they went after some interesting and intriguing college talent, while not ignoring HS players with upside. And they are playing a smart and save financial game to save money where they can, overspend where they can to secure players drafted lower than exlected, etc.

This is just NOT the same old boring and rote route employed previously. We could actually be grabbing some real steals here.

Well I'm glad it sounds like they'll be able to get Balazovic signed despite Kirilloff going for exactly slot. I hope they can get Hackimer Lopez at bargain basement prices, otherwise there won't be much space to throw money at some of the late round HS players.

Well, a few hundred K over is a nice baby step in changing culture I guess.

I like they went HS, frankly, though next year, I want the college catcher I think*

*tons can change in a year.....

True, but it looks like next year is going to be a pretty loaded class - more like 2011 or 2012 than this year.  Hopefully, the Twins get lucky in the supp draft lottery and/or trade for a few extra picks for next year.  The draft is supposed to be pretty deep with good college pitchers as well.

I think they are done signing high school players outside the top 10. They will have 30 players signed if they finish signing all the top 20 players which is a large number and there are 3 college seniors in the bottom 20 still not signed that have to sign still.

So if I'm hearing you, you're saying we should all do our part and stop going to Target Field and cancelling our providers who carry FSN to help the Twins lower revenue and market size.

Only for the sake of getting those comp picks, of course.

Let's do it people!

Maybe that was the Twins rebuilding strategy all along?

Why do people think Balazovic gets signed? We all would like it but I would expect his signing would have to be well over slot.

Well, Jeremy posted Wolfson's tweet that says his signing "will be official soon enough."

Beyond that, if they don't sign him they would lose that slot money and they wouldn't receive a compensation pick next year. Pretty important for the Twins to get that deal done (and they likely had a  pretty good idea of what it would take to do so when they selected him).
